We're both still learning what SparkPeople is all about. I'll check it out.
EDIT: Wait, scratch that! I'm looking and I can't find anything called "Calorie Calculation(s) 101." Would someone be so kind as to post a link to the article directly?

Mrs. Wesley should also read Calculations 101 and educate herself.

M,
Your calorie range is based on your current weight, goal weight, how long you've given yourself to lose the weight, and how much exercise you're doing. So it doesn't surprise me that your recommended range is so high. If you go to the Nutrition Resource Center, there's a piece called Calorie Calculation 101 down the left side. It goes into detail about how your range is calculated.
Let me know if you have more questions,

So, last night my wife, the beatiful and talented Mrs. Wesley (she's better looking than the name sounds) was watching over my shoulder as I entered in my meals for the day, and she nearly fell over when she saw that my recommended daily caloric intake is in the 2500-2800 range. She said that nobody should try to have more than 2000 calories max, and certainly not 2800.
Now, I don't know how the calculations are made, but I figure there are two factors here: 1) Since I'm still in the Fast Break phase and I'm weighing it almost 300 pounds, the SparkPeople system is taking that into account and will be dropping my recommended calories as I enter other phases and build better habits; 2) My goal date is Jan 1, 2008, so that's sixty-five weeks at roughly 1.3 pounds each week. Maybe I'm exactly where I need to be, and if I stay on the workout plan and don't go over my calories, I'll end up right on schedule.
Anyway... any clue as to why my recommended calories are so high right now?
