I realized this weekend while filling out the healthy lifestyle scale that the scale isn't linked to the date. Without the link to the date I expect that recording the scale's results for historical purposes becomes more difficult since people would have to enter their info the on the given date - no post-entry - and for those living a few time zones away from the SP time zone this could become difficult to do correctly. So I thought I'd make it formal and request date tracking (like the nutrition and exercise trackers) for the scale to better enable historical data recording/reporting.

Thanks, ~Jeff

Thanks for the support! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one out there who has issues remembering numbers. (Which is why the nutritional tracker was SUCH a revelation to me!)

Also, as I'm on dial-up, flipping back and forth between pages is usually a pain, so I have a tendancy to just 'guesstimate' the numbers that I put into the scale. . . which is not as helpful/accurate as it could be.

Oh well, at least we've got another type of scale!!
: )

i think autofill is a great idea i have enough to remember without having to add more numbers to my head. i would love it to be trackable. like last month you had 3 almost there days and only 1 this month. show up and sown in progress.

Thanks for the link info, DreaVG. While the info on that link is helpful, I found Tango's post to be insightful for what would benefit others more and provide more and better feedback, which is what I expect the scale's purpose is in the first place. The explanations of where the points come from is one thing, but it takes time to review the info and relate to what someone's results were - trivial for some, but mental work for others. Additionally, I have seen a few people that did not see the link to the points breakdown and were mystified as to where the number came from. If the score was reported with a bar chart, stacked bar, or something similar that showed how much came from each part of the score it would provide far more information and wouldn't require manual referencing and calculation. I'm assuming that a simple legend would accompany the bar and score and the link to the calculation would be the same. If the history information of the score's sections were recorded, that would be very helpful too, since it could easily show trends with the various components of the score.

On the separate topic of auto-info filling of the scale...
This separate topic is a request in a separate thread and should be discussed there, but since my reply is to PartTimer, I'll voice my thoughts here with a link to the other thread for future reference.

I think I understand you, PartTimer, but I strongly disagree that the auto-info fill would defeat the purpose of the scale since it is re-entry of the same information - completely redundant, otherwise it could not fill in that info (and it can't for some fields). I agree that users should have an idea of this information already - from the first time they entered it - though looking up the exact numbers daily can be tedious and is unnecessary. While I can see where refreshing one's memory of this data could be helpful, for me it is very annoying to have to look up and re-enter data into a system that already has the infomation in it somewhere. Just entering the data does not give feedback on how well someone does. If merely entering the data did provide this feedback the scale would be of no use. Once you know how the data are computed then you can probably mentally compute this information, but not initially, and I don't want to compute all six things in my head anyway and I'm a geek. This is why the scale is so useful... it does the math for the user, which even I, a numbers geek, appreciate. Not everyone will find it all that useful, but I really like the scale.

Whew... okay... I'm done now. Thanks for your patience. :-)

A little further on the page you will see a message that says points explained. Click on that. The next page will tell you how many point for each lifestyle item.

I hope that helps,
Andrea

I agree that it would be REALLY nice to see the results tracked over time.

Another tweak that would help me is if it would tell me what my 'most improvable' area was. I'm not terribly good with numbers, so looking at the point chart tells me nothing. For example, today I'm not sure if I scored a bit lower because I got 6 hours of sleep, or because I only ate 2 servings of veggies (but 4 of fruit!).

I like the helpful (and encouraging blurbs), but perhaps a link to another page that could say, "Most Improvable Area."

Just an idea!

Have a great day, everyone!

I think the auto-info fill would kind of defeat the perpose of the lifestyle scale. By manually inputting the information, new members know what their input is each day and how it effect their lifestyle rather that just looking at the results and seeing if they did ok.

Since I've been here a while and My lifestyle scale changes very little, the auto-fill in would be ok but I also don't find it as useful to me as I did before. I usually already know what the results going to be.

Did I make sense?

I would really like to see this feature too. I would first like to see the scale auto-info fill, but then this would be a great addition to the awesome history charts that SP offers.

FYI, this feature was also requested by JANETMONGILIO on 4/26/05.

Thanks!

Healthy lifestyle scale - I love this feature on sparks and use it almost daily. It would be even better if it was trackable, i.e. it would save the history of the scores, and may-be would even give weekly or monthly averages.

Any chance this small addition could be incorporated in the site?
