Let's share some recipes. I get so bored.
Tonight we had hamburgers which are good for a change but I need a new shot in the arm!

I like the idea of a database format much better. That way I could actually SEARCH recipies, like they have it on www.epicurious.com (go see!). You can ask for recipes that match certain specified criteria and it's wonderful.
Otherwise, we'll be having to read message boards and printing each recipe we find we like. That would get tedious, I think...."now what message was that one good recipe under?" Ugh.

An idea regarding diet submissions -- especially since the point would be to facilitate later access by others -- would be to develop a submission for that has the submitting user go through qualifying steps first, using pull-down menus as you proceed thru the submissions process.
For example, to enter a Chili Con Carne recipe, you'd click on
==(category)MEAT
==(clarify)BEEF
==(specific)HAMBURGER
==(method)BAKED
==(time)#MIN/HOURS to make it
==(other)MEXICAN/other ethnicity
==(recipe)TITLE of recipe entered by the user
==(ingredients)LIST ENTER: when ingredients are added, they too can be qualified: MEATS needed (#LB/#CUP), VEGETABLES, FRUITS, SPICES, (#CUP/TBL/TSP) etc etc etc (you can qualify a vast range of categories under which to enter ingredients).
==(instructions)TEXT ENTER: The user would enter how to make it.
In this way, any other user could search recipes by *any* of the ingredients ("gee, I have a ton of beans, how could I use those?"), by cuisine ("I'm hungry for some tex-mex"), by cooking method/time ("I want a meal I can make in under an hour")...
You could compile a heckuva database this way -- and hey, Sparks could feasibly gather the most-accessed ones in print and make some $$ selling them as a hardcopy or eBook!

yikes! a 1.5 pound serving of fish! i believe they mean you divide that 1.5 pounds by 4 and the marinade is for all the fish (the whole 1.5 pounds)
that works out to 6 oz of fish per person.

| Hey Rodie53, that recipe sounds pretty good. I think I'll give it a try. One thing I'm confused on though is the marinade to fish ratio. In the ingredients it says 1-1/2 lb fish steaks. Then at the bottom of the recipe it says it serves 4. I guess what I need to know is do I use 4 of those fish steaks and use the quantities of the rest of the ingredients as written, or do the written quantities make the amount of marinade you need per fish steak?

Here's a recipe for almost any fish -- I've used it with swordfish -- delicious:
Marinated Fish Steaks
1-1/2 lbs fish steaks (swordfish, monkfish, halibut, etc.)
2 Tbs ketchup
1 Tbs fresh lemon juice
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbs olive oil
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup dry vermouth
1/4 cup chopped parsley (fresh is best)
Please steaks in a shallow casserole.
Combine all other ingredients and pour over fish.
Marinate several hours or overnight in refrigerator.
Broil fish until it flakes easily (I spoon more marinade over fish when I turn it)
Heat marinade and spoon over fish when done
Serves 4
297 calories per serving
16 saturated-fat calories per serving
(no other info on nutrients -- this is from a cookbook called Eater's Choice (geared to lower cholesterol))

| I'm starting a recipe thread in spark people cafe. I'm going to post a couple of low cal desserts. Maybe we could use titles such as "dessert recipes", "veggie recipes", etc. instead of posting everything under one topic line. People might be able to find what they're looking for that way.

Broccoli with Blue Cheese Sauce abd walnuts:
2 cups broccoli florets and stems
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons chopped walnuts
1 cup fat free milk
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 1/2 tablespoons crumbled blue cheese
Place broccoli in steamer basket in a small amount of simmering water in a medium saucepan. Cook covered for3-4 mins.
Heat a medium saucepan over medium heat. Dry-roast walnuts for 3 to 7 mins, stirring occasionaly. Remove from heat and set walnuts aside.
In same pan, combine remaining ingredients except blue cheese; bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reducing the heat if nec. Simmer 4-5 mins, or until mixture is thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Stir in blue cheese. Spoon 1/4 cup sauce onto each plate. Drain broccoli well and arrange on plate. Sprinkle with walnuts.
Serves 4; 1/2 cup broccoli, 1/4 cup sauce, 1/2 teaspoon walnuts per serving

I have a ton more at home and will certainly continue to share. Anyone looking for a particular type of food? My tastes had matured a lot and thank goodness becuase there are so many great veggies to enjoy and don't even bring cheese near me! If I could, I'd live on it! And I've learned to get really good quality cheese and enjoy in small doses. Kind of like truffles. Why not enjoy 1 slice of camembert cheese as opposed to the processed yellow stuff!
I'm always interested in low-cal pasta dishes so if you have any, please share.

Just slap it right on the grill. If you have a George Foreman, you can use that too. It's a little bit easier and I use it because it's usually just me eating.
This would also be good on a broiler pan in the oven on broil.
I've just started eating fish and really enjoy experimenting with different kinds. One suggestion on the broiling now that I think of it...make sure that you brush the glaze on and not let it sit in the sauce (does that make sense) because the sauce will burn quickly. Just brush it on.

Ok, I promised I'd find the salmon recipe:
Maple Glazed Salmon
2 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
4 salmon fillets
cooking spray
1 teaspoon maple syrup
1. Turn grill to meduim heat
2. Combine first 4 ingredients
3. Rub salt on fish, then rub paprika mixture on fish
4. Grill on rack coated with cooking spray about 7 mins.
5. Drizzle fish with syrup and grill about 1 minute until fish slakes with fork
yield: 4 servings
1 serving= 1 salmon filet
calories 286, fat 13.5g (sat 3.2g, mono 5.7, poly 3.4g), protein 36.5g, carb 2.9g, fiber 0.6g, chol 87mg, iron 1.1mg, sodium 670mg, cal 30mg
Yum, yum, yum is all I have to say about this!!! Oh, and be sure to use the cooking spray so you don't loose the fish!

I was looking for some great recipes too! I'll have to check my stash at home tonight and post one or two. A great place I've found for recipes is Cooking Light magazine. Very easy instructions and they include the nutritional breakdown.
I just had a great honey maple salmon recipe last night.
Hope to see some yummies on here and will contribute!

Just wondered if there was a place on the boards where people could share recipes?
An idea for the future would be to make it a forum, so people could post different types of recipes...low carb, main dish, vegetarian, etc. and we could find them easily.
