Okay, periodically I need someone out here to tell me to GO LOOK AROUND! :) I get in such a rut and only look at the things I've been doing all along. That meal plan is awesome. While I don't think I'll use it exactly as it is, I will use it. And love that it's linked to the food tracker.

And creating a grocery list! Perfect. Any chance you could allow me to add some text to that so I can make it my complete shopping list?

And the Calories burned, who did that? That's great. I'm gonna have to be creative with that one, as I'm sure there are others that are like me. I just don't use a gym, and there is no where on there that you list chasing cows. Oh yeah, and my personal fav, chopping and stacking wood.

:)

Keep up the good work, you guys ROCK!

Well, I can't speak for other users out there, but I'm sure glad that there are so many options to take advantage of here in SparkPeople land. I realize that what works for me won't necesarily work for everyone, so variety is great!

Thanks for all the hard work you guys put into this system, the stuff I use and the stuff I don't!

The meal plans are samples that many SparkPeople users have asked for. As everyone has different likes, dislikes and allergies, some or all of the sample meals won't work for everyone.

What and how much you eat greatly influences the success or failure of your program. SparkPeople tries to teach people to develop healthy habits, and get rid of unhealthy ones. For most people, thier eating habits need a lot of work and change in order to be healthy.

If these plans don't work for you, try creating your own that has similar values in carbs, calories, protein, and fat. If you are having trouble doing this, SparkPeople does have a nutritionist (Becky Hand) who might be able to help you with creating your own plan.

The Meal Plans were added after several users on the board requested them. The SP System is a tool that should be used however we each choose to use it. We each have to make the system work for us because we are each an experiment of one.

Sources of information that will help you go about doing your personal experimenting are all over the SP site including, but not limited to, the class, the book, and this message board. There are some plans among some of us to actually start teaching posts in series of SP Message Board Lessons that will help the reader grow in his/her personal knowledge needed for tweaking his/her fitness program. This series of posts will pull Message Board information together in a step by step fashion that will be easier to follow than what you have now by random reading all over the place.

Also on how to use the grocery list if you are using the meal plans: If a week's grocery list includes 4 eggs per person and you have 4 people living in your house, that means that you wil need to purchase at least 16 eggs for that week however you need to go about it. Suppose you then purchase 18 eggs in a carton of one and a half dozen and use them all. The following week, you will still have two eggs left over. Suppose your husband will be out of town part of that next week so that you need only 14 eggs. Buy one dozen eggs, add the two, and then you'll have 14 eggs to eat for that week.

Is it ok if we don't use the meal plan? I mean all I do is enter the food I ate for the day. I pretty much just try to match it as close as possible to what is on the plan, but I will never be able to use it. my family is hispanic and our meals consist of beans, rice, & chicken (not all the time, but its the majority). I guess as long as I follow my nutrition value I should be good, right???

I agree with Possum. I'm a picky eater, and a lot on the meal plan doesn't appeal to me, let alone my family (who wants to prepare two different meals?). Also it is very repititious. It looks like the same meals every week, just mixed up on what day you eat them.

The Meal Plans are a great idea, but they just don't work for me, and I'll bet they don't work well for 99% of users either. Why not? Three reasons:

First, people tend to eat what they eat period and have a hard enough time changing portions never mind whole food or meals.

Second, it's a pain in the button to keep switching foods and meals every day and week. Who needs that?

Third, have you ever compared your actual shopping list to the suggested shopping lists? Don't get me wrong, having a list is a great GREAT idea but let's get real. The list suggests things like 4 eggs (my store sells them by the dozen), 3 onces of one cheese and 2 ounces of another cheese, 1.5 cup of cauliflower. That's not how people shop. What about leftovers? What about other family members? Or special diatary needs?

Mabye I'm wrong. Maybe others are really using this feature. You tell me. It would certainly be wonderful if I could push a button and get a diet that I would and could eat--BINGO--there it is! I just think you would do better to teach people a way to eat and a way to shop that they could apply to their own eating habits and lifestyle. Great effort. Meals look good. Just not right for me.

Hey IBcatlover
It will be under the Tools section on the page -http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/homepage.asp(this is the page you come to right after you log in), and it is called Meal Plan Beta. If you do not have a nutrition plan set up you will have to set one up first. The meal plan is not displayed in the tools section if you don't have a nutrition plan.

These came out really well. Basically, we used to offer a 1 week "sample plan." What we have now is an ongoing meal plan, where you get a new plan every week. You can also substitute a meal if you don't like it. Also, from your Meal Plan page, you can click on meal to say you ate it, and the meal and it's nutritional information will be automatically added to your food tracker.

We have just released to the public our new meal plan system. In this system, sparkpeople finds healthy meals that will fit your calorie goals. You can find this meal plan in the tools section of homepage.asp. Note that you need to have a nutrition program set up in order to get a meal plan.

If you have any comments or questions, you can leave them here.

Thank you
