Today my 3 year old watched me do step aerobics for 30 minutes because she was excited to have a turn afterwards. Then when I was done, she was my coach and made up moves to teach me.

Remember that when your kids see you making the effort to exercise, whether it be in bursts or 30-minute segments, you are teaching them the importance of staying fit and active.

Thanks! I got the idea from Cruisepuppy on the biggest loser challenge and I've been finding new ways to burst ever since. It was a revelation to me because now my exercise levels are up where they should be despite a very busy schedule AND I get quality time with the kids.

BigLoser4-
That's a great way to visualize it- It made me think of a bunch of ways I can throw activity bursts into my day.

Tam, My solution... Activity Bursts! I can rarely find 30 or more minutes for myself to work-out, so I do 10 minute segments... many involving my kids. examples:

1) up and down the stairs carrying my youngest
2) dragging one or two of my kids up and down the hall in a sheet.
3) pushing one of them up and down the hall in a laundry basket
4) hopping on my stationary bicycle whenever i have a few moments (especially at night after the kids are in bed)
5) pulling them in the wagon
6) family walks
etc...
10 minutes doesn't sound like much, but I do them whenever I can squeeze them in. This weekend, for example, I did 19 bursts and burned 1800 calories in 2 days! (that's unusual... it's usually only 3-6 bursts a day)

Try getting outside and doing what your kids do... just mimic their play. The Spark Fitness Tracker even lets you calculate the calories burned "playing with kids". A half hour of hide-and-seek or tag burns a lot of calories.

Tam,

If you go to the Fitness Resource Center, on the right side are a list of articles. There is a section for family and Lifestyle that's got good articles about family activities and fitting exercise into your busy day.

Hope that helps!

I have 4 boys from ages 8mths to 8yrs. I am trying to lose weight so I can feel attractive to my husband again. Does anyone have any suggestions?I would also like to know how you find time to excerise and do everything else in one day?
