Hi Daniel, hopefully you heal quickly!
As for your first question, you should allow yourself time to heal and once your doctor gives you the okay and you still want to play then you should at least give it a try. It's like the saying, get back on the horse - so to speak.
As for your other questions, those are really something you should be talking to your doctor about. He/she knows more of the technical stuff of what is going on with your situation and can give lend their expertise in that. I'm sorry I don't have better answers for you, but it would be best for you to talk to your doctor about this.

ummm kk recently (3 weeks ago) i slightly fractured my knee cap and it was placed in a splint till dec 31st. this injury was one of my many from hockey and i have 3 parts to this message. first one i LOVE playing hockey and when i play i can get very instense up to the point to where ive played wiht broken collar bones, and dislocated shoulders + knees. this injury happened from crashing into the boards and now i feel thatr if i play id crash into the boards again and im thinking of not playing out of fear. what should i do? second thing when my knee heals, will i be able to do my normal excersises liek running and weight room? ive been thinking about it all the time and it worries me thrid thing i am a very active person and i cant workout or excersise for almost 2-3 more weeks not including rehab for my leg after, will this have a major affect on my physical abilities?
