I can understand how you feel but dealing with your body image issues is your starting point, not focusing on weight loss.

Healthy eating doesn't have to do with pounds as much as it has to do with getting the right nutrients to allow your body to function properly. Use your Spark Plan to help you make sure you are getting important key nutrients like protein, iron, calcium and calories for energy for growth and development.

Likewise, read this article linked below which will help you evaluate your body type and what typical patterns are for this body type related to weight and muscle distribution.

What You Need to Know about Weight, Body Shape and More

Also, focus on scultping your body with strength training and learning to love your best and most toned parts.

I'm 17, a senior in high school, and I have a job. Plus I weigh 228 lbs. So don't feel alone, there are many people just like you out in the worle, even if I'm not "just" like you, I'm still close to your position, if you know what I mean...

Remember that most physicians do not recommend exercise until after you have been seen at your 6 week follow up appointment. Right now you want to focus on getting to know your baby and eating well so your body can recover from delivery.

If you are breastfeeding then you have even higher nutritional needs and you will want to talk with your doc about that at your follow up appointment since weight loss will not occur if you are not eating enough calories.

Once you have gotten the go ahead to exercise then Denise and members at Spark Teen can help you get started on a healthy eating and exercise plan for you.

Hi there and welcome too SparkTeens! Eating healthy and getting active will certainly help you move toward your goals. As a teenager you need to make sure you are eating enough calories for your growing body, but if you are breastfeeding, you really should be more aware of what you are eating so that your baby gets the proper nutrients. Have you talked to your doctor about any of this?

I'm sure it can be very overwhelming trying to do all that you are, especially with a newborn!

Do you have any activities/exercises that you enjoy doing? Finding something that you enjoy doing can certainly help with the motivation, because if you like to do something, you are more willing to do it more of the time. If you can include your baby in some of the exercises, that would be great too!

There are some exercises listed in the Resource Center that you may want to check out. Even if you started out with 10 minutes a day, that is great! You can even split it up into several sessions throughout the day. If you have 10 minutes in the morning - do a few exercises, then again another free 10 minutes later in the day - a few more exercises. Those 10 minutes here and there do add up and will help you toward your goals. The key is to try and make exercising as fun as you can so you are more likely to continue with it.

You can do this! Think about all the benefits you and your son will get out of you trying to make a healthier you.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I am 17 years old, 5'6" and 230 pounds. I don't look that big though, but I definatly am not at a healthy weight. A big reason I weigh that much though is because I just had a baby 3 weeks ago. I want to start eating healthy and exercising again but I just am not motivated. Between trying to graduate, plan my wedding, and taking care of my son...I don't feel like trying anymore. Help!!
