Megan-
Try to focus on time instead of distance. Any exercise is better than none, no matter what level you're starting at. So keep it up!
I recommend that you read the Teen's Guide to Fitness that is on your start page (under My Tools tab). It talks about how much fitness is good for your health and to reach your goals. See if you can gradually work your way up to 20 minutes each time you run/walk, and then up from there.

Christine- The plan you describe here looks really good! Don't worry about losing your muscle with 35 minutes of cardio. It takes A LOT of exercise (about 90 minutes straight or more) to being burning muscle as fuel. Very few people need to worry about that unless they are endurance athletes who consistently exercise for long periods of time during each workout session.
But the PP is also right about strength training- don't forget to include that to help maintain your muscle mass.

| you should see results with what you're doing. if you add some strength training with your cardio, then you won't have to worry about losing muscle, because you'll be building it back up with the toning exercises.

| how much cardio is really enough to see results? i usually do cardio at the gym 5 times a week for about 35 minutes. i heard that doing cardio for a long time can take away muscle, so i just want to know how much i can do and still not work off any muscles, just fat.
