But that doesn't mean that squats and lunges are pointless. They are helping your build lean muscle, which can help re-shape your body and even boost your metabolism. Stick with your strength exercises, but also make sure you're doing cardio.

You can't turn fat into muscle-- that's like trying to turn silver into gold. If you really have been doing all of those squats and lunges to get all of the muscle, then it's probably there, but you can't see it because there's a layer of fat covering it up. And, the coach has already said this, but you can't pinpoint where you want to lose weight, your body decides where the pounds are going to melt off depending on your genetic makeup. You just have to wait for the pounds to come off your entire body. Good luck!

so does this mean all the squats and lunges won't turn this fat into muscle?

SANDRA- There's no way to "spot train" your body into losing weight in a specific area--you have to work with your body shape. This article will help explain that better: http://teens.sparkpeople.com/resource/wellness_articles.asp?id=915
Good luck reaching your goals,

i've been on a diet for about half a year now and i've lost about 35 pounds, and it seems that it only shows in my upper body. thanks to genetics, i have pockets of fat around my hips, and the millions of squats and lunges won't make them go away!
