| i think when you listen to music, it helps distract you from the excercise and it makes it less boring therefore you'll most likely work out for longer which makes you lose more calories :)

| Listening to music while working out makes working out fun, so then you don't feel like it's boring. And with dancing you burn calories while listening to music and it can be fun.

I agree with what the others have said. I listen to music while jogging and it helps to just get into music and I speed up sometimes, but one need to watch out cause sometimes you don't realize how slow it goes.

| I think that it is true, but its not the music itself....the music takes your mind off the discomfort of the exercising

Plus for most people, music can take your mind off of what you're really doing: exercise. For example, running.

| It might work that way if you listen to up beat music that gets you to move more. I think it is just the music acting as a stimulant to make you more active during exercise and what not. ie: you move your body with the rythem of the music which helps burns calories during a time whem you would normally just stand.
