JASMINE- Who cares what they think, you know? I'm sure they don't really believe that.
Really, reaching a healthy weight, no matter where you carry the excess weight (belly, arms, thighs, etc.) involves a combination of eating healthy foods (not too much, not too little--a balance) and exercising regularly. There is nothing you can do to lose weight in specific areas--you can't control where your body loses weight. But if you follow those sound principles, it will come off.
For more info, check out the Fitness Resource Center. There, you'll find an article I wrote called "Fitness Secrets for abs of Steel," that explains this concept a little more.
Good luck reaching your goals!

CHIC- Well, there's no such thing as "spot training" (losing weight from a specific area of the body). Only healthy eating combined with cardio exercise will help your body lose fat--but you can't choose where that fat comes off, no matter what types of exercise you do.
When it comes to strength training, you can target specific muscles (like the abs or glutes), but again, that will help build strength and tone in those muscles, but you won't lose fat there. You won't see that tone until you lose the fat that covers the muscle (through healthy eating and cardio).
Does that make sense? Follow your healthy eating and exercise plan from SparkTeens, being sure to include cardio and strength training (for all your muscle groups, not just problem areas), and you should notice results.
