Like I said below, "activity" is not the same thing as "exercise." Washing dishes isn't going to provide you with the same benefits as cardio exercise. If you're logging it as calories burned, you're only misleading yourself. Here's why.

When you setup your program, it estimated the # of calories you burn each day just to live: eating, digesting, breathing (all physiological processes use energy from calories), etc. Built into that is "lifestyle activity" like brushing your teeth, walking in the halls at school, etc. You have to exercise above and beyond your normal daily activities not only for health benefits, but also to meet the goals you set during the setup of your account. Logging waitressing or dish washing as "calories burned" is basically counting it twice--it's already implied that you do these basic lifestyle activities.

Make sense?

Not to mention the fact that your heart rate does not get up to aerobic levels and stay there for extended periods of time, while using major muscle groups rhythmically. That is what cardio exercise is.

seriously? I'm a dishwasher and when it is really busy, like non stop movement for 5 hours, i count it under my exercise tracker as 1-2 hours because i know that it's not the same but it should still count right?

Actually, no. Remember that simply being "active" is not the same thing as doing cardio or exercising. It's great to be active throughout the day and that has some calorie-burning benefits, but not as much as you think. And it wouldn't be a replacement for traditional cardio exercise.

If your doctor still wants you to avoid exercise, I would not recommend an active job like this. You should ask your doc if it's ok to stay on your feet all day--I'm guessing it's probably not a good idea.

definately!
I would include that in your exercise meter! (under heavy cleaning) I've done that at the local pizza restaurant once or twice. I, however, ended up gorging myself on pizza when I was done.

MY ADVICE: keep water with you while you're working. it'll help you hydrated and less tired and less hungry when you're done. : )

I just got a job being a waitress. It is hard! I didn't sit down or stop cleaning for six hours. Can I include this in my exercise meter. If so what should I log it under (Heavy Cleaning?).
