Eating more applies if you are not eating enough to meet your estimated needs for growth and development. For teens that is 1800 calories or more each day. So, if your body needs 1800 calories each day for your heart to beat, your lungs to expand or your muscles to contract and you don't eat that much, your metabolism naturally slows to decrease the rate at which you use energy as a natural response to a perceived starvation. If you continue not to eat enough calories for your body to function then the metabolic rate continues to remain slow. If you don't meet your needs AND you exercise and increase the rate at which your body needs energy then your metabolism slows further.

SO, the key for anyone wanting to be at their bodies best weight and shape - is to eat the nutrients and energy your body needs to function properly but not extra and be active and get regular activity/exercise.

When you eat frequent meals throughout the day, you sustain energy and keep your body functioning well. Eating 3 meals a day could make you tired. It really depends on the person though. Id agree with you that exercise is the best way but I know eating frequent meals makes me feel a lot better..

In my opinion, the best way to speed up your metabolism is exercise. It's what I do to speed it up. The eating more doesn't make must sense to me so exercise is my key.

Eating frequently, getting good sleep, exercise, and green tea is known to support good metabolisms.

As a person recovering from an eating disorder I know i have a slow metabolism. I know eating more will help wake it up, but are there any other ways to supliment that? And how do i know when it's sped up?
