When teens and adults get into a habit of not eating enough to meet their estimated needs, their metabolism slows down so their sense of hunger is off. The best way to feel hungry is to eat so you increase your metabolism and the rate at which you use energy.
Spark meal plans provide a framework of suggestions for intake but for many teens, eating that much at one time doesn't work. A great way to get started meeting your needs and making sure you are getting enough nutrients for growth and development is to take the long list and divide it into 6 small meals/snacks which each consist of 300-350 calories and are a balance of carbohydrates (whole grains, fruits, and veggies) and proteins (lean meats, low fat dairy, nuts/seeds). After a few days of eating 6 small meals and getting your 1800 plus calories you will start to feel hungry every few hours just about when it is time to eat another small meal again. This is your indicator that your metabolism is speeding up and becoming more efficient which also means that you body will store less energy in the form of excess body fat and will burn the energy you provide it from meal to meal.
