I was mostly worried because I used to have some eating problems ((I lost around 35 pounds in 2-3 months through hardly eating)) and then I started eating healthy agian and gained 15 pounds in 3 months. Of course I see how unhealthy that was now and why I gained back so quickly I'm just afraid it had some long term damage.

                                                <td>I totally understand the confusion but the actual reason you lost is because your metabolism had increased to adjust to the higher calorie level and so when you cut back for a short period of time you burned more efficiently. This is what you want to happen at 1800-2100 calories. AND you want to vary your intake within that range some so that sometimes you are reaching 1800 and sometimes you are reaching 2100. It is ok to go over 2100 on a day cause that keep the metabolism primed.<BR><BR>The key is to eat three healthy meals and 2-3 health <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=snacks">snacks</a> so that your body always has energy. You will soon find that you are hungry every few hours and ready for a meal or snack and that is a good sign that your metabolism is getting efficient and burning what you are eating instead of storing it.<BR><BR>Hang in there and trust us - you will see a healthier you and enjoy the way you feel and look!<BR><BR>Coach Tanya

                                                <td>The irony of this whole situation is that it took me a week of watching what I ate like a hawk to get my body used to eating only 1200 calories, and now I have to do the reverse! Today I ate a lot more than usual, intentionally, and I can't even hit 1700 calories...but i'm making or exceeding all of nutrient values save for <a href="/resource/reference_carbohydrates.asp">carbohydrate</a> and dietary fibre. And if I go downstairs to get a snack, my parents will ask why i'm snacking if i'm trying to lose weight. Bother!

                                                <td>First, the program when you changed diet stages seems to be set for our adult site Spark People and the nutrient needs of adults and we will have our tech team take a look at that because no teen program should recommend only 1200 calories.<BR><BR>Secondly, YES you do need at least 1800 calories. Also, it is normal for your body to not lose weight if you are not reaching that range depending on what stage of a growth and development spurt you are in. As a teen you have to be very careful to get enough calories or your body will slow its metabolism and actually store fat for future energy needs that your body has for growth and development between now and about the age of 21. <BR><BR>As you consistently eat between 1800-2100 calories from healthy and nutritious food sources like whole grains, fruits, veggies, lean meats, and low fat/fat free dairy and limit empty calories from sweets and high fat and fried foods, your metabolism will speed up (especially if you are exercising regularly) and your body will no longer need to store energy in the form of excess fat. Your body will always need a certain amount of fat reserves for insulation and to provide protection for your organs and every body type has those particular places that the fat deposits most easily. For me it is my mid section because I am more apple shaped. For other people they may hold some fat in her hips and thighs. <BR><BR>So, yes you need to eat at least 1800 calories (and NICOLINA01 you should increase your calories to this range as well) and then be patient as your body learns that you are providing the energy it needs so it can speed up its metabolism and start burning the excess fat reserves.                                                 <td>I had the exact same problem...i was eating in the 1800 to 2150 calorie range, and yet I wasn't losing any weight. When I shifted stages to Spark stage 2, my calorie range dropped to 1200-1500, and I began to lose weight, abeit slowly...but i'm told that that was an error and shouldn't have been allowed to drop, and that it's unhealthy. So i'm in the same boat as you!

It's between 1800 and 2200 but I don't think I will loose any weight eating 1800. I've been eating 1600 for more than a week and exercising regularly for a couple of weeks but haven't seen any results yet. I think my metabolism might be a lot slower than it should be, so should I try to eat 1800, stick to 1600 and wait for results or cut it down lower?
