I think I'll try the natural flax bread it sounds 'hearty'. :) I've just looked up some '100%' wheat bread that I've been eating since I first started changing my diet-- and it has 'HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP' in it! I should've read the ingredients.

| Yeah, 8th continent soymilk tastes better than silk, I think. It has a less soy-y taste lol but enough that it's good. The flax bread tastes like whole wheat bread, but it's a little bit denser and has kind of like a hearty taste? lol i sound so weird but i guess that's the only way to describe it. it's perfect for making sandwiches cuz it's just the right size ;)

is that soymilk good? usually people say that its not good. I'm willing to try it. I don't think I'll do the 100 calorie packs. I read in In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan, that the foods that advertise that they're really good for you, usually aren't.
Natural Flax Bread? I've never heard of it. What's it taste like?

hi, thanx 4 sharing your experience with me. 32.00 is not a lot of money--was that for a whole week's worth of food? even if it was only for a couple of days, my mom spends more than that when we eat out for one night.
I went above my mother's head, and asked my grandmother if she could give me money to go shopping for my own food---and she said YES! she even said she'll take me shopping on Saturday--all I have to do now is make a list of what I need to get so that I'll know what I need. I was wondering since you have experience in this area, what were some of the foods you got?

hey i know how you feel. my mom isnt eating healthy and gets all this stuff very high in sugar or stuff thats fried. and i was just like ..look, can ya help me out? im trying to eat better... if its alright with you can you just get me (whatever it is im asking for) some things that are healthier to eat. and she does get them..but comes back kind of complaining at how some of the stuff is so expensive. well. i just went and did my OWN shopping yesterday. and its not that bad! i found some good deals. i just bought some fruit cups, chicken broth (barely has any calories in it! and its good!) , grilled chicken breast, yogurts, a decent healthy kind of cereal, some fruit and a loaf of wheat bread. i may be leaving some things out, but my total was only from all that stuff like. 32 bucks! which may seem like alot but thats not that bad at all really...for all of that. and if you dont have the money for that cause you might be too oung for a job. then just try and agree with her on something. or...if you get an allowance..get stuff that way. or even if you dont have an allowance, maybe ask for one? hope i helped!

TAYLURRDANCER- That would work if I didn't live in the suburbs. Sidewalks only go but so far. I would need to get money, to catch a bus, to get there. even if its only about 10-20 minutes away.

NEAR824, I like the way you think! I don't know why I didn't think to retreat back to the old methods. Nagging/Pestering is what nature naturally gives a child to get what he/she wants. Thanks again. I'm going to try it. She gets paid on Friday and goes shopping on Saturday, I think that gives me enough time to see what I can do. [it feels good to scheme like a little one again.]

XQUINNYX- That's a splendid idea! I think I'll use both your and NEAR824's ideas. and feathera's too. I think I'll keep pestering my mother to give me money to buy my own foods to eat.

FEATHERA- The part she doesn't seem to understand is the 'heatlhy foods isn't more expensive than junk food at all'. She's lazy and doesn't like to cook or clean. She says that because she works 3 days a week, 12 hours a day, she can come home and do nothing. she has that choice. I did that first part you asked about 4 months ago, but she doesn't listen--at all. This means a lot to me. If i could just get my mother to get on board, or at least shove herself aside and help ME get on board.

Quinny, that's a rather spiteful idea. I like it. Though I suppose being caustic about it isn't going to make things any better.
I'd say that you should use the tried-and-true pestering technique. Just keep asking her about it, and eventually she'll have to give in if she wants you to shut up. Focus on being annoying but not completely over-the-top. Some people have to work hard to perfect this art.
Or, if you want to build on Quinny's idea, simply refuse to eat. Go on a hunger strike until your mother decides to buy you something you'll eat. She should have your best interest in mind, and she can't force you to eat anything. The downside? You'll be hungry for a while. But it's perseverance that gains the most.

Maybe You Could Ask Your Mum If You Could Have The Money She Spends On Your Meals, So You Could Buy Your Own Dinners. That Way You'll Both Be Happy.

| Maybe you could walk to the farmers market by yourself and get some healthy food?
|
|

She must not understand how much you want to health-ify your life. Maybe you could sit her down and explain to her that you want your body to be healthy and to be able to do everything that you want it to do and junk food doesn't contribute to a healthy body.
In actuality, healthy food isn't more expensive than junk food at all. And, think of the medical expenses!!! lol.
Good luck!

Okay, What can I do if-- I am willingly on a diet. I make a point to exercise daily, I've cut out as many bad things as I can.... the problem is food. when I go with my mother to the grocery store, she's never willing to buy any healthy foods. She always has an excuse either the food's too expensive or she 'can't do it'. I try to point out to her that there is a farmer's market literally 10 minutes from our house open fridays-sundays every single week and we could go. the food there is fresher and it'd may be fun. but she always shoots me down. Of the food she does buy, I try to not to eat any sugar and cut down my salt intake. but I'm feeling like this isn't enough. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I COULD BE DOING EVEN THOUGH THE FOOD MY MOTHER BUYS ISN'T HEALTHY?
