Being anorexic and not eating enough calories is not healthy or safe. As a teen, your body is still growing and developing which means you need more nutrients and calories to do so. This means that you should be eating a minimum of 1800 calories each day.
The thing is, you slow your metabolism a great deal when you don't eat enough calories for growth and development as well as typical daily functions like your heat beating, your lung expanding, muscles contracting etc. As you start to eat nutritious calories at the recommended level, your metabolism speeds up and becomes more efficient and that is how you begin to easily lose weight AND grow and develop at the same time.
The key is to eat smaller meals and snacks more frequently. This gets the metabolism working most efficiently, gets the calories and most importantly the nutrients in and after about a week, you start to feel hunger pangs every few hours. This is a GREAT thing and indicates that your metabolism is working more efficiently and is burning up the foods that you are eating instead of storing them for future energy needs.
The best way for you to move forward is to: 1) begin eating 6 small meals/snacks each day each consisting of 300-350 calories. 2) Focus on nutrition at each meal/snack - whole grains, fruits, veggies, low fat dairy, lean meats/nuts/beans. 3) Make sure each meal and snack is a healthy balance of protein sources (lean meats/beans/nuts and low fat dairy) and carbohydrates (fruits, veggies and whole grains). 4) Save the "junk" like fried foods and sweets like soda, pies, cakes, cookies, candy and cake for the special occasions of life. 5) Make sure you are active daily for at least 30 minutes if possible and include strength training several times a week to tone and shape your body.
This plan will allow you to have the nutrients you need for growth and development and will help you have energy for life, will improve your outlook on things and will help your find your bodies best weight and shape.

i would say just keep trying different things with her to stay active. and if she ends up not wanting to do ANYTHING and keeps gaining i think as her friend its you responisbility to have a talk with her, just tell her ur worried about her eating and exersising habits and tell her you just want her to be happy and healthy { dont say anything directly about her weight} , if she is a true friend she will realize you only want the best for her.
| i dont tell her that she needs to lose weight. that would make her sad... if not mad at me. and when i try and get her to play a sport or jump on the trampoline she just complains or does it for only 4 or 5 minutes.
You don't tell your friend she needs to lose weight do you?Maybe you could ask her to go exercise like go running or go play sports. But i know what you mean about friends not being supportive. Some of my freinds and my parents are really supportive, but then I have a few friends who encourage me to eat a lot and really bad foods because they say I look fine and don't need to lose weight, so that brings me down sometimes. But then I think maybe they are saying that because they really think that and want to help me just learn to be comfortable with myself. eIther way if you are trying to lose weight do it healthy.
| yeah just whatever makes you happy.. but healthy..

| i know exactly how you feel, im not overweight, but im just not happy with my body. i try to tell myself to be happy the way i am but i think i would have a ton more confidence if i could lose about ten pounds. i'm about 118 120 right now and 5' 2. i feel out of place alot, and if im next to somwone bigger but more confident, i feel not curvy enough. for me its not about being stick skiny its about being happy in my own body and not feeling akward and out of place everytime im around everyone.

| when you're watching tv or see him talking good about other girls, casually mention "if i compare you to the other guys on tv, you are 100 times better" he might feel guilty for mentioning good stuff about other girls rather than you. he will start to comment you! it worked for me!
| yeah...even watching tv with my boyfriend and seeing 'hot' girls it just makes me so mad because he never sayes anything like that about me..
| i totally know where you're coming from. its so embarassing and you want the other girls to look at you and be jealous. not you look at them and be embarassed and jealous. and make your date proud! im sure you will!
| i wish my school had more classes like that.. yeah my main reason i joined this site is because i want to lose weight for prom too.. i just dont want to be embarrassed to wear a dress and i want to look good..
| thats probably best to not weigh yourself because then your always worried that nothing is happening.. i don't eat very many carbs to tell you the truth i track all my food on this site and my average is around 1,200.. thats probably not healthy..

| When we were in PE we actually went from doing 5 push ups to 20 push ups. I just wish I had been smart enough to keep my fitness then and there. I signed up for PE this year, but I was too embarrassed about how I looked when I did jumping jacks (with my fat) I switched to athletic conditioning. There I was too fat and came in too late. I also wasn't motivated enough. My teacher kept telling me to change out into another class, so I moved to Media Aide. It uses more energy than other classes that don't focus on weight, but I actually signed up for it because it was either that, personal living or something I have already taken... By the way, I'm a guy and I want to lose at least 28 lbs by the time prom comes up.
| Yeah its just hard to not eat normal when my family is around. They just get mad and force me practically. I dont eat like 3500 carbs a day or anything but i eat a good 2000-2500 like you're supposed to. We dont even have a scale so i wont notice progress until i actually SEE IT on my body.
| actually both.. i guess i just started to care more and more everyday so i was like whatever i'm actually going to do something about it.. so i've been watching what i eat and a lot less.. and actually trying in p.e. and trying to do some sit-ups and stretching at home.
| so did you just change your diet? or just excercise extra hard in PE?
| yeah i totally wish i had a treadmill... and yoga not so much my thing.. lol not very flexible like them. and yes very slow going..
| sounds like a plan! i always run on the tredmill after school and homework and stress. Also, do yoga. it helps me relax. But it is such SLOW progress i dont know what else to do!
| well i guess just watch what you eat.. i stopped drinking pop.. the site is pretty cool cause it counts calories for you.. and that helps me alot.. i also like how it gives you workout plans.. so i do those.. and i also try to get in 30-60 mins of cardio everyday but i have P.E. class so thats where i get my workouts in.. and i would also recommend having someone to motivate you it really helps!!
lol thanks so much! any ideas for me? how did you do it? ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺¢¾¢¾¢¾¢¾¢¾¢¾
| lol, thanks.. i hope the same goes for you!!..
| wow! good job!! that soon! WOW ☺
| yeah i joined about 6 days ago and i think it really helps too! so far i've lost 7lbs.
| i only have been on spark since yesterday! but it has really helped so far
| yeah.. how long have you been on spark?
| i am the same way. i try to eat only 1500 calories a day or less. but my family practically forces me to eat more... i think they're catching on. but i really really want to lose more
| most of my friends are tiny.. and then theres me. my parents dont think i eat enough but i think i eat way too much.. i'm not fat either but i hate myself. i've lost weight so far but i'm really hoping to lose more and have that "perfect" body
| from the looks of your picture you are perfect! you look really good! and congratulations on losing all that weight!! I want to be 105 really bad i'd have to lose 14 lbs though! i just dont know what to do...

| I'm kind of going through the same thing. I use to be over weight, but lost about forty pounds through fad deiting. I've been fortunate and have kept it off. But I still never feel thin enough. My natural body weight is about 105-110, but I'd much rather be 90. I guess I suffer from poor body image. Though, recently I've realized I have to be happy with my natural weight, and start eating healthy again; instead of eating one meal day.
i never thought anybody would understand. my parents are just so dumb about it. they keep telling me to just be careful. but its not that simple. And most my friends are skinny except for 2 or 3. Im not fat but im not skinny im just "average" and want to be skinny.
| i totaly know how you feel.. i'm not happy with myself at all but everyone else thinks i'm just fine.. i've also thought about annerexia but i just don't think i could.. i wanna look hot too..
i am not overweight.... i am just not comfortable with the weight i am at i am bigger than a lot of people... but smaller than a lot of people too! I just dont know. My parents dont understand my feelings towards it. i thought about going annerexic... but didnt want to get sick either just wanted to be healthier and eat right and and look HOT if you know what i mean!
