If you want to put a food in your Nutrition Tracker that isn't listed in the database - you can click on add a food and on there is a link to "enter a food not listed." You can enter the nutrition info in there if you have that info so you can track it.

Hope that helps!

2 pounds a week is more appropriate and healthy for an adult, not a teen. Your body is still growing and it has different needs than an adults body.

I know I can lose more than once pound per week, as I have done it before. Nothing extreme though. I usually go for about 2 pounds per week. Ive read that it is also a fairly healthy pace. Is this true?

That's great that you are losing weight and inches! Some people do tend to lose more the first week or so, but it is not going to continue that way nor is it healthy to. I did take a look at your account and you are eating under the minimum that is recommended and doing a lot of exercise. I highly suggest that you eat the minimum calories suggested to you as you are still growing and your body needs more nutrients and calories. It's great that you are exercising, but you need to make sure you are eating enough calories to give your body enough fuel to properly function.

You slow your metabolism a great deal when you don't eat enough calories for growth and development as well as typical daily functions like your heat beating, your lung expanding, muscles contracting etc. As you start to eat nutritous calories at the recommended level, your metabolism speeds up and becomes more efficient and that is how you begin to easily lose weight AND grow and develop at the same time.

The key is to eat smaller meals and snacks more frequently. This gets the metabolism working most efficiently, gets the calories and most importantly the nutrients in and after about a week, you start to feel hunger pangs every few hours. This is a GREAT thing and indicates that your metabolism is working more efficiently and is burning up the foods that you are eating instead of storing them for future energy needs.

my account was made like almost a month ago (so I could get to know the site better), but I started my diet last saturday. Today was my first weigh-in and I lost 5 pounds, and my waist dropped 4 inches. Is that healthy?

The reason for no more than a 1 pound loss for teens is because teenagers bodies are still growing and you need more nutrients and calories than adults. Therefore, it is not a good idea to try to lose more than that each week because you won't be able to get those nutrients or calories trying to lose more than 1 pound a week.

Every body is different, so you can't say if one will lose faster than another. Also, weight loss is rarely consistent anyhow, so even if you lost weight fast in the beginning, it is not likely that you will continue to do that.

Hope this helps!

Try focusing more on creating healthy habits. By doing that, you won't drive yourself crazy with all the numbers, but the weight will come off.

Also in that case at the rait of 1 pound for week then that would take until around March. Does your ability to lose pounds have anything to do with how much you way? I way allot more then i should around 227 pounds and im 5'10 so would that mean that I would be able to lose weight faster then most?

Is there any diffrense between how much weight boys and girls can lose on average in a week? Saying that they both eat right and they both started out at the same wait.

I think you need to re-read my post. I did not say that she could lose twenty pounds by thanksgiving. I said a realistic goal is 1 pound per week NOT 5.

Also how can she lose twenty pounds by thanks giving if she doesn't lose around five pounds per week? I'm not saying five pounds right on the dot for four weeks in a row but around five pounds. Also must i lose only one pound per week? If i did that then on estement it will take two years to get to my goal. And didn't you say it yourself that it is a realistic goal to lose twenty pound by thanksgiving? Well thats only a month or so away right? So in order to lose that much you would have to lose around five pounds a week. Like i said not a perfect five pounds right on the dot for weeks at a time just around that.

Only one? Hmmm is it bad then that my average wait loss is at least two pounds a week? If I'm correct I lost allot of wait one week because i had gotten pretty sick and i hadn't eaten much. I think I lost around four pounds that week or maby more i cant remember.

It is not healthy, safe or realistic to set a goal of losing 5 pounds a week. In general, the most a teen should aim for to stay healthy and safe is 1 pound a week. Some weeks you may lose more, but weight loss is rarely consistent. You want to make sure to set realistic goals for yourself.

Twenty pounds in four or so weeks isn't all that hard if you go about it right. One time i lost five pounds in one week. I don't know if five pounds per week is good or not but still if you lose five pounds per week for four weeks in a row then you got it. The one problem is doing it. I worked pretty hard to do that. Just exercise every day and eat right and you got it.

Hi there and welcome to SparkTeens! To lose 20 pounds by Thanksgiving isn't realistic goal to set for yourself, nor is it healthy. You can certainly lose some weight and even body fat by then though! A realistic goal is more like losing 1 pound a week, although weight loss is rarely consistent. So there may be some weeks you may lose more ore nothing at all.

I would recommend that you take a look at some of the articles in the Resource Center, particularly under the motivation tab - there are several articles there about goal-setting techniques.

Please let me know if there is something I can help with.
