| I just started today, but I've been checking out other people's posts. I'd just like to say I know exactly what you're talking about. I've tried to no carb diets that tell you no bread no startches. Then I've done the ones that say you have to have grains. I've been taught that too many calories is bad. And it all gets so confusing. I guess the important thing to remember is that eating healthfully is what's important and if you take things one day at a time and do your best, with follow through, everything will come together.

I understand you confusion because there are so many "diets" out there. Spark is not really a "diet" but rather a lifestyle eating plan to help you live a healthy life. The problem with a "diet" is that you eat a certain way (for instance no potatoes or no bread) for a period of time and you get some results. Then when you go back to eating like normal you gain it back and many times more.
Eating well is not about skipping certain foods or counting every calorie - it is about about making healthy choices for nutrients and balancing exercise. Calories in have to balance with calories out and you want those calories to include as many nutrients as possible.
We want you to focus on making healthy eating choices and that can certainly include a potato and if it is baked that is certainly better then as a french fry. A grilled chicken breast is a better choice then a breaded and fried option because it provides more calories but no more nutrients. I hope that makes sense.
There are many, many people on Spark People that have been very successful with their weight as well as in other areas of their life by learning to make wise and controlled food choices. You will too but you need to remember that your body is still growing and developing. You might not see the scale change yet you might be gaining height and that causes an overall improvement in BMI so be sure to use other measurements along the way so you aren't just focusing on a number on a scale.
Hope that helps. Let us know what additional questions you have and I will be happy to help.

hi im crystal...im like 5'2 and i weigh 158...i lost two pounds like a month ago but my weight goes up and down.... but im confused because ive been taught so many different things on all these different diets! so my heads kinda spinning..."if i eat this will i still lose weight?" "but the other diet said not to touch potatoes!" "will it take me forever to lose weight on this diet?" "isnt that too many calories?" all these questions are going through my head. See im VERY impatient...so if i look on the scale after like 4 days and i dont see a change (i weight myself multiple times a day) or if i even see a slight increase i get upset and my shameful voice in the back of my head (which only comes out when im dissapointed, mad, or sad) says "ooh there apple pie in the kitchen, anyways its not like your ever going to lose weight!" or "you can just start the diet over tomorrow no one will know!" So i would just like to know...has anyone lost like a lot of weight on this diet? How long did it take you? And the biggest question of all....was it easy? I would greatly apreciate it if someone writes back to me...thank you! Crystal
