I understand that. My point is, is that I don't think people should give other people their whereabouts (city, last name, address, etc.) but I think they should meet the requirements for the website.

Lying about your age for sites or programs is not good. It is a matter of safety for more reasons than you may realize. For example, our site is designed for 13-17 year olds because that age group has VERY different nutritional needs than someone 12 or younger or someone 18 and older. It can be a liability and safety issue if you lie about your age when signing up for something when you are not old enough or older than the requirements.

vagueness is good too. but what would happen to me is I would say what state I lived in and I would always get someone being like "oh I live there too. what part do you live in?" and I don't want to offend them and say oh I don't want to tell you because you might be a stalker. I just lie. haha.

i just say the state. it's still not safe to say you live near somewhere b/c there's a thing call a phone book (which can be used for or against you).

I think instead of lying about where you live, you should be really vague.
Like instead of saying the city, say near somewhere.
Or just the state.
Or the country.
You don't have to lie to keep your information private.

it's not like you're being a horrible person by lying about your info unless you're trying to lead someone on to come meet you. but if you're like 15 and you don't want some pedophile chasing after you it's okay to say you're older so you make yourself seem less vulerable

yeah...i promise i'm not an old man!!! or an old woman!!! lol!

i think on some unsafe sites like myspace and friendster you should lie about you're age tho. people have been killed from telling their personal info on those sites. that's my main point.

lol! i don't lie about my name but i don't say what city i live in or my real age (except on here).

i think you're right tho that lying doesn't really help the cause much. sometimes it's fun to pretend to be someone you're not tho.

I don't really see any reason to lie about your age on a safe site, like this...it's meant for teens. Why would you need to lie unless you're some old man? lol.

But lying about where you live, that's another thing. I think that's fine to do since it is for safety and stuff.

it's okay to lie about your personal information on the internet. I always lie about my name and stuff like that so I won't get stalkers lol

I say if a stranger asks you how old you are or where you live, you ignore him or report him if it is getting to be harrassment. Just lay low and nothing bad should happen. But even lying about your age doesn't help at all.

I know where you're coming from. kids do need to stay off those websites. But for AIM you're even supposed to be, what 14??

Even if they don't lie to sign up, I think it's a good idea to lie to strangers about your age. Including where you live!!!

I think it's a bad thing. A lot of the people lying about their age are kids who want to be on websites meant for older kids, such as MySpace, Gaia, etc. It may not seem like it's a big deal, but it really is. They think it is okay to lie, but it isn't.

And some creeps lie and say they're 14 when they're really 55 year old pedophiles preying on girls. So.
I think that's self-explanatory.

I don't lie about my age...I think it is kinda bad because there is pretty much no reason to do it (I mean, on this kind of site or any other safe site). And also, lying doesn't make anyone feel good and it doesn't benefit anybody.

i think it's a good thing!
otherwise some creepo stalker could find out more info about them or something. i also don't see a bad side to it.
tell me what you think.
are you lying about your age??
