| Oooh, my current favorite salad dressing is the Newman's Own Light Lime Vinagrette. It's soooo tasty and is only 60 calories per serving. It doesn't take much to give even a huge salad a boost. mmmm....

I LOVE the idea of using a salad dressing mix with cottage cheese. What a great idea for a dip too. I TOTALLY am going to try that.
As for salad dressings - I'm a huge fan of the salad spritzers. I love the even, light coverage spraying the dressing on gives. You still taste the salad, with a hint of dressing. I don't know if I can ever go back to pouring dressing on.

| I barely use any dressing at all on my salads, because I use the tastiest parts of the salad to help flavor the less interesting bits. For example, I spear a nice juicy tomato or I put a piece of turkey or chicken with lots of plain lettuce. I eat the cucumbers and celery by themselves. I always get the dressing on the side, and use it (sparingly) as a dip for the veggies that are left.
| I just add 1 tbs of extra virgin olive oil, you'd be surprised...you don't need dressing!! And it doesn't over power any of the veggies taste.
I make a lowfat dressing that tastes like Thousand Island dressing: 1 Tbsp. Light Hellman's Mayo 1 Tbsp. Heinz Ketchup 1 tsp. Heinz Relish Mix well and spoon over salad. It is delicious!
| dressings that come in the spray bottles are great!!! you use less but still get all the taste and flavor!
I just had a snack of salsa on celery. It is very good. I have also used salsa for salad dressing. It is very low in calories too.
| Sometimes I love salsa as a salad dressing. There's mango salsa, green salsa, roasted garlic salsa, etc. I like locally made salsa and also the ones from Trader's Joes.
that low fat Bleu Cheese dressing recipe sounds yum! I'm totally gonna try it.
I also find that instead of putting the dressing all over the salad....if I put my dressing on the side and just dip my fork in it a dab and then stab some lettuce on it...I use MUCH MUCH less than I ever would if I had just poured it on the salad.

I made a great low-fat Bleu Cheese Dressing yesterday:
4oz Gorgonzola (or other bleu) crummbled 1/4 cup regular mayo 1/4 cup light sour cream 1/4 cup plain, ff yogurt 2 tbsp red wine vinegar 1 tbsp lemon juice pinch of cayenne, or siracha or other hot sauce, to taste
You can use all fat free products if you like, but this is 55 cal for two tablespoons and, personally, I try and avoid ff products because they contain a lot of artificial fillers and sugar. I eat all the same good stuff as before, but focus on portion control and eating a lot more fruits and veggie. JMHO

I love soy sauce so that sounds wonderful. Will whip up a batch tonight for my salad....
Thanks.

I don't use oil but I do something similar for my stir fry's or baked phyllo egg rolls as a dipping sauce. 1/4 cup water 2 Tbls soy sauce 2 Tbls rice vinegar 2 tsp sugar. I will have to try it with the splenda, don't know why I didn't think of that. Thanks for the idea.

| My favorite dressing is mix soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, splenda and olive oil. Keep adding and tasting till you like the taste

I have used the lemon herb seasoning instead of the lemon pepper. To me lemon pepper is a bit too strong but the lemon herb is great. I use it on hot veggies. Adds tons of flavor.

| Ken's now has the Salad Spritzer's. There are lots of choices. A serving is 10 sprays - I usually only use about 5. Wishbone also has the spritzers, but not as many choices.

My Mom sprinkles Lemon Pepper on her salads and has for years. I do not go for that but I do use the NO DRESSING on my salad and always on the side. That way I can get what I want (no cream based dressings for me though only oil based) and just either dip my fork before I pick up my salad (tricks from weight watchers) or just dip a small bit on after I have my salad on my fork.
But if I do use FF it is Kraft Ceasar Italian...YUMMO

| I do NOT reccommend the fat free ranch dressing by hidden valley. It tasted sour, if you have a dressing on your salad you might as well enjoy it so I chose to put red wine vinegar or rice vinegar. OR use a low fat salad dressing like light italian. I am trying to use less so I can eventually eat salads without any dressings at all

I'm with BREE777 on the Kraft Zesty Italian -- I can leave it in the 'fridge at work and not be upset if someone else uses it.
If you love a tang to your dressing, try adding raspberries. If you prefer sweet, blueberries. These are relatively stable mixed in with yogurt or vinegar or evoo. Of course, you can use any fruit, but I haven't found that others are as stable, so I just add them to the salad rather than a dressing.
Is anyone else addicted to Panera's signature dressing? But then there's the calories . Any ideas?
| I like balsamic vinegar mixed with a little evoo and grey poupon and freshly ground black pepper. red wine vinegar works as well. I also make a dish where you warm up some grape Tomatoes in some evoo and add them to some green onions, basil, and balsamic vinegar. It's really good!
| I've been trying to digest extra virgin olive oil but I can't stand the taste. I prefer homemade salad dressings but I like the convience of bottled dressings (when used in moderation).
| I almost always eat my salads without a dressing. If it has plenty of toppings such as juicy Tomatoes and olives it is not that bad. It takes some getting used to but you will soon find cheeses and toppings that can give you plenty of flavor without the fatty dressing.
| Stay away from fat-free salad dressings - they take out the "good" fats and dump in tons of sugar. "Lite" dressings are better, they have a good ratio of fats & sugar. Check out the labels, you will be surprised how much sugar they put in ff.

Here's a delicous recipe for balsamic dressing:
I use those salad dressing bottles that come with the packets of dressing mix, and I fill the bottle with balsamic vinegar up to the "oil" line (balsamic is so sweet that you can get away with using MUCH less oil with it), then fill with maple syrup or orange juice to the "water" line, and then fill with olive oil to the "vinegar" line. Kinda backwards, but yummy! And you can add any herbs or garlic, onions, shallots or ginger - very yummy!

I have become increasingly sensitive to MSG, so most of the processed stuff is out of the question. I made one today that tasted great:
1/2 Cup fat free sour cream (Daisy brand) 1-2 Tbs skim milk 1 small clove crushed garlic (or 1/4 tsp garlic powder) 1/2 Tsp thyme 1/4 tsp Grey Poupon Harvest Grind Mustard 1 chopped serrano or jalepeneo (omit if sensitive) 1 scallion salt & pepper to taste
Chop the pepper and onion and add all ingredients together except milk. Add milk a little at a time until desired consistancy.
I made some whole wheat pasta with frozen veggies and chicken added to it, this was really tasty over the top.

I like the LiteHouse lite ranch dressing. It's pretty good in itself but I dilute it with equal parts dressing and water. Then I can have more.

I like to add salsa to FF ranch dressing, but I think I am going to try the cottage cheese, dry dressing and the salsa. I also like balsamic vinegar with 2 T FF mayo and 1/2 pkt of splenda Jane

I will give this a try today. I love creamy dressings.

I have switched from bottled dressings to oil & vinegar and its so easy. I sprinkle about 1/8 teaspoon of garlic powder & 1/8 tsp of dry oregano over the salad and the about 1 tsp of olive oil (which is good for you) and 1 tsp of cider vinegar.
Its just right for me but you can increase the amounts if you like.

| I like to add the Hidden Valley Ranch salad dressing mix to 1 cup non fat plain yogurt and 1 tablespoon mayo. Has aprox. 25 calories per ounce and makes a great veggie dip and salad dressing.

| I like Paul Newmans Asian Sesame vinegarette. Its 35 calories. Very Yummy

| yeah...like others here, i don't really care for the dressing anymore. i do put either red wine vinegar or "salad" vinegar on the salad. skip the oil if you can though....yes evoo has some "better for you" health benefits, but the added cals!! yikes... vinegars have zero per serving (usually)---plus it gives a litte "zing" or bite to your salad. mmmm

Thanks, I need all the tips I can get so there's no room for boredom!

I use 1 Tbls regular fat thousand island and add 2 Tbls fat free sour cream. It is excellent.
If I am having a cesar salad I use 1 Tbls regular kraft classic cesar dressing and 2 Tbls of fat free sour cream and 2 Tbls of lemon juice. Oh I also tried Walden farms thousand Island it is fat free calorie free..... It was pretty good. I would buy it again even if I don't use it all the time.
Also if I buy a vinaigrette I let the oil come to the top and pour it off. Measure it with measuring spoons so you know how many calories to delete from the total and then replace it with water. It works great.
Also just plain balsamic vinegar is good. Red star brand is my favorite.

I use balsamic vinegar, light;fat free vanilla yogurt, honey & lime juice and blend very well.
I use any portions I like, I kinda play w-a little of each & add where needed or depending on how much I need.
Don't try & keep any of these longer than 2 weeks...there's no PRESERVATIVES.
I even do mustard, vanilla yogurt & honey to make honey mustard...it actually taste better w-out the mayo...go figure!

| I use salsa instead of salad dressings on most salads. If it's a salad that has a strong cheese I just go without a dressing. You can actually taste all the flavors that way. Yum!
| I really like the Wishbone Salad Spritzers. Problem is the one I love- Asian Ginger- has HFCS as the 2nd highest ingredient.
| I don't care for salad dressings, as I think they overpower a great tasting salad. But if I'm in the mood, I've always preferred a little green olive juice or red wine vinegar.

Oh my GOODNESS! I never thought of using a mix with FF cottage cheese! Thank you for that!
Anyways: My #1 standby is Kraft Free Zesty Italian. At 15 cals per svg, even if your salad is big like mine are (I use around 3 cups of spinach or lettuce as a base usually.) you can cover it all with 60 calories :D
The other Kraft Free flavors are ALL higher in calories, from what I've seen, so don't just grab any Kraft Free product without checking the labels!
| I just whipped up a packet of ranch dressing mix with a tub of skim milk cottage cheese today and I think this is going to work really well! THANKS
| I like the new salad spritzers too. You can have more control with them.

Personally, I like a lot of the fat-free or reduced fat bottled dressings available at the grocery store. Kraft, Ken's, Wishbone, etc. I try to always measure my dressing and have found that I really don't need all that much if I toss the salad well and distribute it evenly.
Adding a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to store bought fat-free Italian dressing really punches up the flavor!
But another option, if you like creamy dressings is to mix one packet of your favorite dry salad dressing mix with one tub of fat free cottage cheese. Whirl it in the food processor or blender untill it is smooth. If it's too thick for your liking, just add a little skim milk or butter milk till you reach the consistancy you prefer.
You get the wonderful flavor of the dressing, but without the fat/calories that you would if you mixed it with mayonaise, etc. Plus you get a little calcium and protein too!

| I made myself a beautiful chef salad for lunch today and was feeling so proud of myself - such a switch from 2 weeks ago, when I would have had fast food - but then, when I went to enter each of the components into my food tracker, I realized that I had just had a 500 calorie lunch - mostly because of the dressings! SOOOOO....my question is, any recommendations for salad dressings that cut down on the fat and calories, but still manage to taste good? Much appreciated, since this is the beginning of my second week!
