It depends on the substance - a cup is a liquid measure, and in many cases you are using weight measures in the UK (grams).
Roughly speaking 1c of water is 1/4 liter, so when we drink 8c of water a day that's 2L. To make a rough estimate of things like flour or sugar you could use that as a guideline.

Hi, I wondered if anyone could tell me what a 'cup' equates to in some other form.

Here in the UK, I've never seen a recipe using a measure of a 'cup' so am intrigued!

Desperate to try some of these recipes.
