I was browsing somewhere last night and saw three recipes to make up using spices to replace salt. Has anyone else seen that and know where I can find it. Thank you!

I don't think washing them gets out whatever sodium is actually *IN* the beans ... but it does get rid of what is in the liquid they are packed in. I have no idea what percentage of the sodium is in the beans and what is in the liquid, but I always drain and rinse mine and feel like it helps.

I'm sure homecooking some beans without salt would be our best bet ... but I'm not always going to do that. So I sort of view it as a compromise. I feel like using rinsed canned beans is better than stopping off for a fastfood meal because I don't have time to start from scratch. KWIM?

Maybe someone else will have a more helpful response.

I had chickpeas for dinner today. The whole can contains more than 1000 mg of sodium. I washed them well, but I was wondering if that help to get rid of most of the added sodium or is it possible for the sodium to leech into the beans?
