Question on evaporated milk and condensed milk

I would have never thought that you could get away with that. There is so many calories in the sweetened condensed milk as apposed to the evaporated milk and the texture.....
If you do try it Please post your results I would be very curious as to how it turns out.

Lately many recipes I would like to try call for sweetened condensed milk and specifically say not evaporated milk. I believe the only difference between sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk is the addition of sugar. In those tiny cans, I estimate they use as much as 1 1/4 cup of sugar. If I wanted to cut the calories further, could I use evaporated milk and just add my own sugar at a lower amount like 3/4 cup?
