I make chili in my slow cooker, but it seems that it needs to be stirred on an hourly basis. This is why I do not use my slow cooker very much. What am I doing wrong to require all this stirring? Additionally, I tried a roast in there once and it was dried out and burnt to the sides when I got home. Yes, I keep it on low and yes, I added my 2 cups of water at the beginning.

I love my slow cooker too. I read somewhere online about how expensive it is to use your oven versus a slow cooker...it's like dollars compared to pennies. So I use the slow cooker alot. And for folks that say they don't know how to cook...a slow cooker is just the thing for you! Toss in your food...plug it in and walk away...6-8 hours later - dinner's on! And as far as healthy dinner ideas...I got most of my current recipes right here. Sparks recipes has some amazing food ideas.

I love my slow cooker! But what really helps me at dinner time is having a meal planner. I do it by the month, but I know people do it by the week, too. As for recipes, SparkPeople has tons of recipes here (check out the recipe of the day in the column to the right and then you can choose different categories from there) or at sparkrecipes.com. Also, our local library has plebty of cookbooks - I'll bet yours does, too. If you find one you like, check out half.com, ebay.com, or amazon.com - the prices are usually good.

Hi

You may want to get a slow-cooker cookbook. All you need to know is how to put food in the crock and turn the button.

I do most of my cooking with the stove as well, mostly because I don't even think about dinner until it's time. From your list of foods, and mind you I know nothing about the nutritional values of elk, I would be able to do much. I use a lot of lean ground beef (we are dairy farmers and have LOTS of beef) and chicken. I have tried to take all side dishes out of our meals (i.e. potatoes, stuffings, pastas, etc . . . ). Occassionally we will have brown rice or wheat pasta but other then our meat, we have a salad and hot vegetable. To start, think protein, vegetables, and fruit. When choosing carbs, nothing white. No white rice, no white pasta, no potatoes (sweet potatoes are okay), no white bread. We eat a lot of chicken salads, meatloaf, porcupine meatballs, taco salads, chicken and homemade fried rice (brown rice, egg beaters, and mixed vegetables), and so on. These meals do NOT take a lot of time or effort. Serve 2 veggies to every protein and fruit for dessert.

freezer- bacon, chicken nuggets, fries, elk hamburger, elk stake, waffles, frozen juice, tony pizzas.
Fridge
eggs, cheese, milk, pickles, bread, spaggetie sauce, taco soft shells, koolaid, lots of condomiments, salad, jelly.
cubord
bannanas
mac n cheese
top romin
alfredo sauce
noodles
peanut butter
tuna
spaggetios
cereal

So what do I need to buy to start eating healthy.
should I buy a cookbook like biggest loser or that mrs. seinfeld book.

I think this one of my biggest problems from losing more weight. I love salmon and chicken, but I dare not cook it. I am not a good cook at all and I am huge about meats being cooked right.
I only cook with pans or pans that go in the stove.
not the other cookers because I don't know how and don't have time. I have three hours after work to get dinner ready, and it takes my son forever to eat.
The only meats I know how to cook at elk hamburger or bacon. I make dinners for my baby one and my three year old almost four and me. At dinner time its whatever will get my three year old to eat.
K this it what I have in my kitchen:
freezer- bacon, chicken nuggets, fries, elk hamburger, elk stake, waffles, frozen juice, tony pizzas.
Fridge
eggs, cheese, milk, pickles, bread, spaggetie sauce, taco soft shells, koolaid, lots of condomiments, salad, jelly.
