Wow,there are some great ideas.... I've made fish with covering the fish with a light mayo, lemon juice, salt & pepper and bake it.

If you don't like the fishy taste of fish you can soak it in milk for at least an hour before you cook it in the fridge and it will take the fishy flavor right out.

My brother hated fish when he was younger and this worked like a charm

I've been taking a can of either water packed tuna or salmon, draining it and adding fat free miracle whip, chopped fresh green onions and a dash of curry powder. For me, this makes the water packed fish palatable. I put in on multi grain melba toast with a little bit of low fat margarine spread on them. My boys love this too!!!

I take my pink salmon steaks and marinate them in wine, dry herbs, olive oil, salt, garlic powder, paprika before grilling them. They turn out real yummy.

I get my tilapia filets in the frozen food section at my local Wegmans. They are individually wrapped, so it makes it easy to just pop one out when I need it. What I do is so easy. I take a leaf of Kale, place it in the bottom of a steamer put the fish on top season to taste with a drop of olive oil then steam for @ 15-20 minutes. So yummy, AND you have a side veggie with the steamed kale.

I have never liked the "fishy" taste of fish but I try to make myself eat fish 1-2 times a week to get in those healthy omega threes. Two fish that I enjoy are salmon and flounder. Two of my favorite recipes for these are Bourbon-Glazed Salmon and Baked Flounder with Fresh Lemon Pepper. Both of these recipes can be found at cookinglight.com. Hope this helps!

Hi,

do you probably know a recipe for sauce. I bake salmon in the oven (I marinate it with lemon juice and herbs) and it is a bit dry. If I could make a low calorie sauce , that would taste beter.

do you have any idea?

thanks,

With thin fillets like tilapia one of my favorite ways to cook it is simply rub a low sodium blackening seasoning on it. Or basically any spice that you like. Just put a little olive oil in bottom of a skillet, let it get really hot and just drop the fillet in until the fish gets browned and then flip. By the time they are browned they are done. Works great on all kinds of fish but you may have to finish in the oven on some thicker pieces. Finish with a little lemon juice and you have a great healthy meal.

I don't defrost my fish ever...I pull it out of the freezer and pop into the fridge for a day or two to thaw out. Lately the guy that delivers our firewood has been bringing us a frozen bag of bluegill. So for the last 3 weeks we have been having fish frys. I dip the fillets in a cajun mix, then fry in extra virgin olive oil. So yummy. I know fried isn't the healthiest...but I only cook bluegill this way. Otherwise I cook tilapia in the oven with lemon pepper and it is soooo good!

Tilapia is my pick of all the fish. My hubby and I raised them in our pond for a few months.

I like to grill mine. I use one of the small grill pans that you use so the food doesn't fall into the fire and I sprinkle some of the "blackened fish" seasoning on both sides. Then I only turn the fish one time while they are being grilled....moist and delicious!!! Chargail

I wouldn't defrost it. The ice crystals that form when frozen break the cell wall. So when you defrost it, you might lose some flavor and it wont be as tender or juicy. Just lower the cooking temperature (instead of 350, do 300 or 325) and double the cooking time if it's frozen. It won't taste quite as good as fressh, but you will still love it, even if you're not a big fish fan. Tilapia doesn't have a really strong "fishy" taste.

Do you do this with frozen fish? If so, do you leave the fish frozen and put into the oven that way? Or, how do you defrost it? I'm new to cooking fish! Thanks!

My girlfriend showed me the best way to make talapia. Just put a few filets in a glass baking dish. Sprinkle with mrs. dash or lemon pepper (or both). Then add sliced lemon (fairly slim slices) on top of the talapia. Bake it for about 20 minutes until it flakes. The way the lemon gets baked into the fish and makes it so juicy and tender is excellent!!!

I put frozen fillets in the slow cooker with lemon juice and lemon pepper or cajun spice.

AMBERSLAW - does this work with frozen fish? That's probably a stupid question! But, I am just learning to cook! Your recipe sounds sooooo yummy!

I love fish. I think that the best way to make fish is on the grill no matter what kind it is. Tilapia or cod are very light fish, I brush it with olive oil and use Mrs. Dash lemon and dill salt free mix, and put some fresh parm cheese on it. If you are craving something a little more meaty, you can get a tuna steak w/ lemon dill marinade or swordfish or marlin and marinate it in terryiake sauce or any marinade you like and grill it and in turns out just like a steak...good stuff. Just remember with fish..white wine garlic lemon dill or old bay are going to be your base seasonings...then grill or bake..you can broil but I dont like it that way very much.

Hi - My husband is a fisherman, always has been, so I`ve fixed lots of fish during the 43 years we`ve been married. One of our favorites is to place the fish filets into a 9 x 13 cake pan with a little fat free milk in the bottom. Add a little white wine to it or not and bake at 425. It only takes about 20 minutes or so to bake depending on the thickness of the fish. About half way through, I add a crumb mixture that I made ahead - mix some seasoned bread crumbs, a clove of chopped garlic, some parmesan cheese, a little olive oil or melted butter, parsley flakes, sea salt and pepper. Sprinkle on top of filets and finish baking. Don`t turn the fish during baking and it`s done as soon as it flakes when poked with a fork. Delicious

I put a tablespoon of sour cream and a few teaspoons of cajun spice mix on it, bake it at 350* for 20 minutes. It makes a great low fat fish taco too! Also, I bake it with salsa, cheddar cheese and a few crushed tortilla chips on top. (same cooking time)

Tilapia is also good broiled with lemon juice, a little bit of butter, and fresh dill.

I just recently tried tailapa. It is inexpensive and very mild. It basically takes on what ever flavor you put with it.

Last time i dredged it in a little flour and pan fried it in a little olive oil. Then I topped it with pan sauteed shrimp, onion and lots of garlic. That it not the leanest way to prepare, but it was very good.

I have also cooked it with salsa strait out of the jar, that was good too. I would think it would be good in a fish stew, just put the chunks of it in at the last minute, have a veggie and broth pot ( I would use clam juice for the broth) but tht is a little daring to try to serve to a child.

There is a thread on here somewhere with several fish ideas. I think the topic is Tailapa. It is my favorite fish because it isn't very fishy tasting.

I soooooo need help in this area. I never ate fish as a child since my mom didn't like it. I really want to start making more fish meals at home. I honestly can only recall once or twice that I attempted to make fish. 2 of my 4 kids would complain I'm sure so I need ideas for less fishy tasting meals if that makes since. Thanks in advance!
