Bake some chicken, make some brown rice, cook some green beans... those can be combined in various ways to make diff meals. My husband also uses too much salt. I started making all veggies with NO seasoning and we all add our own. He was adding it anyway, so this way, he actually gets less and doesn't notice it. He tastes the salt that is sitting on top the most anyway. We use garlic powder exclusively as well as onion powder. No salt there. Besides, you pay more for that salt than your own anyway.

Your are lucky your husband likes to cook. My does too and it's a great help to me. If your husband doesn't want to change his cooking style, it's up to you to fix your meals the way you want. Fixing a big salad isn't really cooking. Packing a lunch of some chopped vegetables and some fruit isn't really cooking. If you like, you can eat simple sandwiches and snack on a healthy snack like whole wheat crackers. The are lots of choices now days.

All the grocery stores now have many items in single serve portions. Next time you go grocery shopping, look for items that will meet your needs and still be on the simple side. Your health is too important not to seek out solutions.

Hi

Ask him to switch to garlic powder instead of garlic salt when cooking.
Also ask him to reduce salt when cooking (set a limit) and he can add salt to his own food after cooking if he chooses to.

Do you have a crock pot? If you're looking for simple and fast, this would be my first suggestion. If you don't already have one, they're pretty inexpensive, and they really take a lot of the hassle out of cooking. Do a search in the recipes area and you'll see a bevy of quick and easy crock pot recipes.

Oh my. salt AND garlic salt - that's too much sodium. You should try to get him to hold back on that while cooking and salt his own food separately - old habits die hard though. My boyfriend can eat anything he wants and doesn't gain weight and also salts food heavily. It's taken a lot of coaxing on my part to get him to scale back on the salt.

Glad to have helped anyway I can.

My husband weighs less then me! LOL I would love to enlist him but he is stubborn. His spices consist of ALOT of salt and garlic salt. I do however like the idea of pre-making my meals. That will defiantly save a lot of time and struggle in the kitchen. Thanks for the suggestion. =0)

Well you can either enlist your husband to try some simpler lighter recipes - have him check out sparkrecipe.com with you and pick some things out you all would like. Or you can ask him to set some of whatever he's making aside for you before he spices it. Spices are good for you though. Or my last suggestion, periodically torture yourself by getting into the kitchen and making batches of food you can freeze so you have easy meals ready to go in the freezer. I usually batch cook something as well as prep a big salad (leave dressing off) on sundays for the week so I don't have to cook every night. Just heat whatever I cooked and grab a couple servings of the salad and toss with dressing for me and my boyfriend.
hope that helps.
best wishes.

My husband does most of the cooking and is great at it however he likes to cook somewhat fatty foods and too many spices. We have a family of five and cant afford to shop and the whole foods stores ect. Winco it is for us. I really dont like being in the kitchen nor like foods that I cant pronounce. I would like to start simple and fast. Anyone have ideas for the picky eater?
