Garbanzos! Be warned...2 hours at 300 degrees yields little black rocks. Need to find a middle ground. :b

This sounds great - I can't wait to try it. My family loves garbanzos and would go crazy for this snack. Thanks for the idea and the modification. I am off to open a can (or two)...

We didn't have such great success with roasting garbanzo beans, but we did experiment. The beans didn't crisp up in 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees, or in 40 minutes, we're up to an hour now. And sprinkling seasoning on them before we baked them didn't really DO much; until we marinated them over night in the fridge!

So this is the revised method. Rinse the canned garbanzos REALLY well, blot dry, put them in a plastic bag along with some EVOO and whatever spices you wish (my upcoming experiment is to skip the EVOO and marinate with Walton Farms, 0 calorie, barbecue sauce...) and squish them around until they are covered by the seasoning. Put in fridge, squish around periodically for the next 24 hours. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a cookie pan with foil, to REALLY avoid a big mess, distribute beans evenly and separately in pan. Roast up to an hour. Cool, if you can keep the family away until they are cool, enjoy.

I don't know how they keep, there are never any left. We've done nacho cheese beans (with powdered flavoring); used a spicy New Mexico dip mix (they like this best)...hmmm might want to look into Lipton Onion Soup mix unless it's high sodium...hmmm...

Next experiment is: Going to cook my own chick peas for this recipe so as to reduce sodium content (lower than canned peas/beans).

Anybody else experimented with this?

Jicama! It's also called yambean. I would describe it as a cross between a potato and an apple. You can peel them and eat raw with any kind of dip. I like the curry dip recipe from SparkRecipes.com.

I snack on walnuts, prunes, bananas. I also get the 100-calorie pack Lorna Doone Shortbread cookies. They taste great and have no trans fats. Oh yeah, I just started eating Dannon Activia Yogurt, the Light, fat free one.

The garbanzos are great! At our Sams I found a brand of snacks called Snikkidy. There are natural cheese puffs and natural choc chip cookies in snack size bags. They are 150-200 calories and all natural/organic ingredients.

How bout the "Little Cuties" or "Darling Clementines" (mandarin oranges) or tangerines that are in season right now? They are sweet and delicious and Santa always puts one in our stockings.

Bulgur wheat is more of a rice replacement than a snack, but it's a great high-fiber, higher protein, lower calorie option as a side dish.

Apples, fresh pineapple, grapes, and pears are all delicious this time of year. Dried fruit is also delicious (might make you gassy, tho..)

Roasted garbanzo beans are also great - drain and rinse from the can, put whatever seasonings you like on them, and roast them for maybe 15-20 min at 350 degrees. Crunchy, low-fat, and has protein, too!

Just now pomegranites are a good low cal, healthy snack. I bought two big fat ones and pulled the seed out and put them in the freezer for snacking.

I get whole-wheat, low-fat pita bread and cut them into 8 wedges, split each wedge to make two pieces, spritz them with cooking spray and bake in a single layer in a 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes...until crisp and not burnt. If you want, you can sprinkle them with kosher or sea salt before you bake them. We can't. You can also sprinkle them with Italian seasoning, or rub them with garlic, or sprinkle chili powder...you get the idea. : ) You could make some Hummus dip to go with. We love that.

I don't kow if this is all natural, but I love munching on granola and raisins. (Not at the same time, but that does sound good..lol)
I am having a hard time w/ snacks too, and I love veggies, but getting a little tired of the same stuff.

Hi there.

I switched to an organic/all natural (as much as possible) way of eating in the past several months - including baking my own bread, which has lead to a 10 lb. weight gain! ;) Ahhh well... Now it's time to get it off, so I have decided to join weight watchers - yet again. It always works for me, but I need to realize that I should stick with it because the weight ALWAYS comes back - this time to the tune of 20 lbs. past my "Lifetime" goal weight. But I digress...

My question is: Does anyone have any good snack ideas for all natural foods that pack a nutritional punch?? Please note that I'm not a big fan of salads/raw veggies and I really don't want to resort to pre-packaged foods that have ingredients I can't pronounce. I don't have any food allergies (i.e. nuts, milk, dairy, soy).

Any input you can give me would be most appreciated!
