We made some healthy pizzas with whole wheat english muffins topped with bruschetta, chopped black olives, chopped marinated artichoke, fat free mozzarella and a tiny bit of reduced fat feta. Totally packed with flavor and done under the broiler of the toaster oven in minutes. We also tried a version without the bruschetta, and it was good, too.

My family loved the salsa chicken recipe for a slow cooker! We had it with brown rice, but next itme they want me to cut down on the liquid ingredients or drain it and servie it in a wrap with the toppings. Guess we will give that a try. The chicken was delicious.

To make the tortillas even crispuer you can brush it with olive oil, and bake it. I even made that for my vegetarian daughter, with seasoned black beans, garlic, onion, Tomatoes or salsa and some cheese.

Pizza was the one thing I knew I couldn't live without if I were to diet. So when I found that the biggest loser cookbook had a tortilla pizza I was so excited. I have used it many times. But I use my favorite tortillas. I don't care for the wheat. but I bake them for a good 5 min on each side first so it has a crispiness to it and it can stand up to the toppings.
I love Ragu garden combo sauce for the pizza sauce. It taste just like pizza sauce to me. Then I use mushrooms and Tomatoes and a tiny bit of pineapple and ham. Maybe a couple of olives. Then carefully weigh an ounce of cheese. Or a slice of mozzerella. I think it was an eye opener for me when I didn't have to cover the pizza in cheese for it to taste good.
Thanks for all the good ideas.

I've made pita pizzas before and they are good. You can also split the pita, cut into triangles, toast 'til crispy and have them with salsa or some other heathy dip.

Great idea with the pita. Pizza is my biggest weakness as far as food is concerned! I had been using torilla shells, which are really good. They are just not quite so sturdy if your preference is to load up some veggies (squash, peppers, onions, olives, Tomatoes and the like). The pita will also knock some calories off the dish (compared to flour tortillas).
Thanks for the idea.

As a child, my mother used to take veggies (especially those that had to be used up fast) and used to blend them in a blender. then she would mix it in with the tomoatoe sauce. Never new we were having pizza with veggies until years later

for those that like a very thin crust pizza, use a wheat tortilla. I enjoy these very much. Another alternative (very fun for the kids) is to make mini pizzarettes with wheat english muffins as the crust.

Today I made mini pizza's, like when I was a kid. This brought back good memories and good tastes. I changed the ingredients some, but only 253 calories. This is easy takes about 10 min prep and 5-10 min to cook, under broiler.

English muffin, split
Tomato paste- 2 tbsp
Mushroom, portabello or white- 1 lg
Onion, slice
Green pepper, tsp chopped
Monterey Cheese, 1 oz shredded
Parmesan Cheese, 1 tbsp.
Spices; oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, basil

My husband and I make these pizza's once a week usually and they are delicious. I have one that I make with pineapple and low fat turkey. It's a twist on a "hawaiian" style pizza but DELICIOUS! The pita crisps up so it's very tasty!

One of our favorite pizza'a (and so low carb too-if you are doing that) is to take portobello mushrooms and top those with sauce and cheese and bake them. It's not finger food-we slice them and eat them with forks, but they are very yummy and healthy!

We *LOVE* Flat Out Wraps for making pizzas. I've also used pitas before but we like the wraps a little better I think because they are less "bready" ... but everyone's taste is different.

Flat Out Pizza - recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=83341

My favorite 'healthier' toppings are purple onion, sliced tomatoes, and baby spinach.

YUMMMMMM!

The garlic and parmesan sounds yummy. I think I'll give that a try. I toasted one the other day and spread Peanut Butter on it for a post-workout snack. Soooo good. I love how versatile these pitas are. I picked up some of the lavash the other day too. Can't wait to try them in a wrap!

I picked those up in the grocery store the other day because I like to cut them up toast them with a little garlic and parm cheese. A lot lower in calories than the pita chips in the store. I never thought about making pizza with them. What a great idea. I like the idea of mixing in spinach too.

I have also made pizza on Flatout Light breads (like thick tortillas)with light spagetti sauce, low fat cheese, and turkey pepperoni.

This is a good idea as well. Anything that tastes similar to pizza works for me!!!

I am going to look for the tortillas and use the spinach idea. I think that raw spinach doesn't taste very good so in sauces and such is the best way for me.

I am going to try the spinach in the sauce idea. My fiance DESPISES any veggie other than green beans and corn on the cob. I, on the other hand, love veggies, especially if they are hidden! I'll have to let you know if he notices!

I will look at wal mart too, it's the only store where I live that I can afford with healthy options too, scary isn't it! I have been eating the south beach diet pizza. When my family eats regula pizza its hard for me to resist. Finding good healthy pizza is hard. I love the spinach idea, thanks a lot.

I add spinach to my spaghetti and lasagne sauces quite often...my husband and kids love it. Sometimes I add chopped zucchini or summer squash too. I've never thought of adding the spinach to pizza sauce. That's a great idea. I'll have to try it. Thanks!!

Here's another great pizza idea. My husband & I tried this just a couple days ago. Take some spinach (we used about 2 1/2 cups) and chop it rather small. Mix it into your pizza sauce. Can't tell it's there, even your kids won't notice it. It's a great way to sneak vegetables into your diet. This idea also works great for spaghetti & lasagna. I don't like spinach but I'll eat it this way.

I found the pitas in the deli section at Wal-Mart. I think they were about $2.30 for 5 loaves. It's the only real grocery-chain we have in our area so I don't know what other chains might carry them. I hope you'll find them at one of your local stores. They make great sandwiches, too, and I can't wait to try them toasted with salsa or a roasted red pepper spread. YUM! Good luck and have a great day!!

My family loves homemade pizza. And I'm sure most of you have heard of using pita bread as a pizza crust. I found a great pita that is low in calories, fat, AND carbs, and is high in protein. Joseph's Oat Bran and Stone Ground Whole Wheat pitas are only 60 calories, 5 net carbs, 1.5g total fat, and a whopping 7g protein. And they are yummy. My kids each took turns creating their own mini "pitzas" tonight and they loved them. We put a tablespoon of pizza sauce on each pita and added our toppings. I went with just 1/3 c. part-skim mozzarella and 2 oz. canned mushrooms. I added a green salad with light dressing for a total of only 246 calories!!! I love SP. It has really turned on my imagination in the kitchen!
