Well, if the items you are replacing are higher in calories than the white rice, then you will be comsuming fewer calories, but there are better options.
Beans are super filling, because they are high in fiber. I agree with the person who divides their plate. 1/2 veggies, 1/4 protein (meat), 1/4 starch.

If you like salads, try adding a salad to lunch and dinner. It doesn't have to be huge. I put mine in a plastic container with a lid, add a very small amount of dressing, then put the lid on and shake it a lot so that every bite gets the dressing flavor (I prefer creamy dressing rather than oil-based, so this is the best method for me). Eat the salad and drink a glass of water before you attack your dinner, and you'll be surprised how quickly you get full!

I divide my plate into 3... half (non starchy) veggies, 1/4 meat, 1/4 starchy side or dessert.

For the starchy side, I'll eat:
-Whole wheat cous cous
-baked sweet potato
-Whole wheat pasta
-Brown rice
-Corn or peas
-Beets
-Winter squash (acorn, butternut)
-Beans (also can be protein)
-Carrots

For the veggies I'll eat:
-Salad
-Tomatoes
-Broccoli or cauliflower
-Mushrooms
-Bell peppers and onions
-Zucchini, sumer squash
-Dark leafy greens
(really, anything that's in the produce section!)

I agreee with PEA_NEL_OPE.

I like beans too as a side dish. Low in calories and great protein and fiber. Veggies are good too!

I try to stay away from white rice because it really isn't good for you. It is better than fried but not as good as brown (which I don't particularly care for) but you can only eat it in moderation because it is a little high in calories for a side.

VEGGIES - roasted, steamed, sauteed, etc.
Brown Rice (like post below, not white rice)
Baked Potato (good with salsa or marinara sauce rather than butter)
Beans (good with rice, make a whole protein)
Whole Wheat or Corn Tortilla (go for low fat ones)
Whole Wheat Pasta

If you want french fries, oven bake them but they are still high in fat and most store bought ones are full of sodium and I consider them "processed food".

There are great articles about food here on SP - check them out.

Brown rice is much better for you than white rice (which has practically no nutrition at all; I'm not quite sure why you have chosen this food item).

Beans, especially when cooked with minimal fat, are an EXCELLENT side dish choice. Veggies are also good.

If I replace certain foods with white rice will it help me loose weight?

For example......when making dinner, as a side instead of eating beans, french fries, etc. I eat white rice in place of those.

and what are some other foods that are easy to make that i should eat instead of traditional sides????
