I had my first taste of pomegranate just yesterday! Very yummy. Someone else did all the hard work though but I might just try it myself.

If anyone wants to know how to get the seeds out of one easily, all you need to do is the following-

Slice the pomegranate in half (Slice from the top bit down)

Get a large spoon and smack it against the skin. Do this until all of the seeds fall out!

I love pomegranates, and there on sale at my local grocery! 4 for $2!

Alton Brown on Food Network showed getting the seeds out by putting in the water. No, it does not take any flavor away.

My son who is 2 & 1/2 yrs old will eat them by the handful. I prefer the juice over the seeds.

i remember seeing on a poster above the display about the breaking it apart in water to get the seeds and draining it.

i'm worried that that'll kill the flavor though and melt the good stuff around the seeds. does that happen?

You need to eat them s l o w l y , a few seeds at a time so you can enjoy it. I agree about the staining part :( but the fruit is sooo very good !!

It is a great snack for watching tv cause it takes so long to eat one !!

I actually have a "pomegranate eating shirt". LOL! Seriously, I have a huge XXL shirt and I put that over my clothes when I'm eating pomegranates (or other messy foods).

I like to carefully cut part of the skin off and then just peel it apart. I have a bowl next to me to put the inedible parts, and then I just nibble on it while watching TV.

It's the only "mindless" food I eat - although it's not totally mindless as I have to pay attention to pulling it apart and picking out the seeds.

To me it's a "grown up finger food".

At the holidays I make a watercress salad topped with pomegranite seeds and a champagne vinaigrette and it's a nice fresh tangy dish to go along with the more meaty heavy comfort foods.
I've never heard of eating one with a fork because the seeds are attached and you don't want to eat the white part of the inside, just the lovely red seeds. Also, the juice is very staining so if the seeds spurt, you could stain your clothes. I've always just cut them open the sort of broke it open further to reveal the seeds and peel away the white parts. If I'm outside and feeling leisurely. I will just pick the seeds and eat them one by one. But when I make the salad I do not want to pick them one by one and I read a technique that you could use then put the seeds in a bag to eat in class. You cut the pomegranite in half then again, sort of break it open further. You fill a medium to large serving bowl with water about half way then you break off the seeds with your hands under the water - keeps them from spurting all over the place. A lot of the white flesh will float so you just strain that off, then dump the water and seeds in a strainer and let the seeds drain. good for eating! plust they have lots of good health nutrients.
Good job on trying something new!

hey howdy!

i noticed some on sale at the store earlier, and one lady actually chopped one in half and gave it to me with a fork. it was interesting how she told me that i was just eating the seeds and that was it.

it tasted pretty good (had a basket on my arm and a lot to do so i only got a forkfull or two). i was wondering, is there really another way to eat them? i was going to maybe chop one in half and take it to class with me tomorrow, but i dunno if that would be such a good idea because it'd probably take me forever to eat.

has anybody dealt with pomegranates in any other way, like added them to anything or did anything special? i'm really curious because i only got 1 (very expensive), but its kinda a neat fruit and i was wondering what else to do. i want to keep my taste buds guessing with different fruits.
