| My husband is Indian and we make roti too! Not very often though because they are time consuming! I would go with the rice too! You do have to put butter on the roti so they don't harden so that is extra added fat. Why not try brown rice! I love the basmati but it is still a white starch. So now I just use brown. I still add the cumin seeds, onions and peas which make it delicious! I also try to use instant brown rice since the regular takes too long! Good luck!

| Rice is healthier, but personally i find roti more filling meaning you might eat less of it.

| Rice, specially steam, is much healthy than Roti, their fried meaning fat, and the flour is pure Carbo's

thanks, this is great. I was not thinking about the things that go into the roti. i usually don't cook meat or vegetable with butter and use very little oil. i think the rice sounds good, will use this more often.

Breads tend to be higher in fat than rice cooked with just water but it really comes down to balancing your overall intake vs. calories burned, and keeping in your calories as well as fat, carbs, and protein ranges to lose weight. If the meats you make use a lot of butter or oil in cooking then that's additional fat right there so you may want to go with the rice. One idea - there is a place in the Nutrition Tracker for "food groupings" and you could enter all the ingredients of the roti then see how many calories, carbs, fat, and protein are in a serving. For example, if one recipe makes 8 servings, then you'd put in .125 for servings because the tracker is counting the whole recipe as a serving and you would only be eating 1 piece (1/8th of the serving). then you could enter that in for meals and compare it to brown rice in making your choices daily rather than just picking one over the other. The idea here is to still allow you to eat what you would normally eat, but to maybe cut back on how often or on the portion because if you cut it out, lose weight, then go back to eating it again, you are not really changing your eating habits (you are dieting, which tends to lead to regaining the weight).

I am Indian and most of our meats are served with either Rice or Roti. I make most of my food. I use whole wheat flour for roti making and use brown basmati rice.
Which is better if I am trying to loose weight - rice or roti? Thanks for all help.
