I'd like a smoothie right now. I am hungry. I never got the taste of the fruitier ones with juices but I know there are tons of recipies out there. I just figure that everything is better with chocolate.

mmm...wish i had bananas for tomorrow.

on the colder bit, i drink mine out of a frosted mug, and for insurance on keeping it colder, i throw in a couple of spoons of sherbet instead of sweeteners or flavorings. it helps out some and makes it mmm...

You don't even have to peel bananas before popping them into the freezer. Just put the ripe bananas as they are on a shelf in the freezer. Why waste a freezer bag? The only thing is you'll have to let it thaw a bit when you are ready to use it for your smoothie for ease of peeling. Throw in some frozen strawberries and/or the ice cube(s) for a colder smoothie.

i always make sure to put at least one ice cube to blend with so it has the crunchy taste.

I am sure that you could freeze them in anything really as long as it were airtight. The bags would probably be great because you could give them a squish when they began to unthaw. I find that unless frozen things aren't mixed well when they thaw they can be a bit unapealing. But if you gave them a good mix I am sure they would be great.

My favourite smoothie recipie is 1 cup chocolate soy milk, 1 banana and a handful of ice. Tastes just like a chocolate shake.

Also if you have bananas that are on their way out but you don't want to make smoothies yet. Peel them, pop them in a freezer bag and stick them in the freezer. Then when you make the smoothie it is almost like blending up ice cream. Makes them a whole lot creamier. Yummy!

in the absence of lots of travel mugs, do you think a couple of those reusable ziplock containers would work, or perhaps a bowl with a seal (like tupperware, or that "equivalent" on the market. i have lousy freezer shelves and i'm sure the travel mugs would end up falling over anyway, even if i had them. i've never tried freezing stuff before, so i'm really wondering. it'd be nice to be able to make banana fruit smoothies and keep 'em before my bananas go bad.

and in response to your question, a smoothie is like a milkshake but much healthier. it doesn't have ice cream, it has basically milk, fruit, and maybe a little sweetener. that's about it.

my smoothies are simple: take a banana, 1/2 to 3/4 cup frozen or fresh fruit, 1 cup soymilk, and a few tablespoons of sherbet (instead of sugar or flavoring--keeps it colder longer). blend them together in a blender and you're done. drink up.

Psychogreengirl - my friend used to freeze hers in travel mugs. That way when she was on her way out the door in the morning she would just grab one and go. Most of them usually come with a fairly tight lid on it so you could probably give it a bit of a shake as it melted and it would be smoother. Just don't forget to cover the drink hole or you will be wearing your breakfast!

out of curiosity, how long would they keep, and what kind of containers could they keep well in (like a tupperware or something else)?

i like the idea. the sound of the blender annoys my dad like nobody's business.

A friend of mine used to do this with soy milk and she loved it. I like the frozen ice creamy milk shakey feel of a just made smoothie but I am sure that if you let it thaw and gave it a good stir it would be just as good.

Yes you can. The consistancy of the smoothie may change but it should still taste good. It may separate when thawing so you'd have to stir it.

If I make a batch of smoothies after drinking one for breakfast can I put in individual containers and freeze? Will it keep okay? I'd prefer making one large batch for the entire week rather than one every day. Thanks for answering.
