I have a book that lists calories , sodium , protein etc. so I just add this up for the marinade (I make my own, but the packaged one will list it too. Add in the amounts for the size of meat you use. Then simply measure the amount of marinade before, and what the measurment left is afterwards ( and reduce the amounts according to the amount unused. Sounds like a lot of work, but really its not .

I have also thought about this, and I believe we are getting some of the calories from marinades, while it may not be much, I do calculate the totals and only count a third into my calorie count just to be on the safe side.

I personally don't count marinade. I also don't marinate in anything with oil or fat in it.

Then again, I don't count mustard, ketchup, or fat free sour cream so maybe you should take what I do with a grain of salt.

when you marinade and then grill most of the excess oil get burned in the coals so will not make a huge differance in fat or cal intake and a good marnade that will add no fat and little calories try fat free Italion dressing and add any herbs you like to change the flavors this is very good on chicken

to find how many calories go to sparkRecipes.com and click as tho you are going to list a new recipe on spark.
You fill out all the fields. Telling your ingrediants and how much of each. It then calculates your calories per serving.
One word of caution. Steak has alot of calories. I was surprise when I entered a small 8 oz Sirloin.
Good luck and make sure you enter the amount of serving you plan on the recipe to make or it looks larger! Good luck again.

I figure it wasn't much and thanks for all the help. I will do the measurement of before and after to see how much is left. I think that is the best way of doing.

Thanks all

Hi,Well I can tell you that if you were doing weight watcher onions and veggies would be 0 points.Look on the labels and that will tell you.Get out your cup and measure befor you put it on your meat. After your meat has been marinated pure the rest back in the cup and thats what think you should not count. But honestly Its not that much I don't know if this helped.Good luck.

Hi, KCSieg! I try to estimate how much of the marinade I actually ate - something like a Tablespoon probably - and then add that in addition to the ounces of steak.

Wow, great question, and I now I too am puzzled. My sense is that is virtually none, considering it is basically all thrown out. I tried doing a little research on it, and came up short. Hopefully someone here can help!

Hey everyone I have a question and hoping you can help me with it. When you use a marinate for meat how do you calulate the calories cause your not eating all the marinate but the meat does have some of it and I would think that means more calories. Does any one know how you would calulate the calories, sense you throw out most of the marinate?

WE had this wonderful new steak called Flat iron Steak and we marinated it for 5 hours. The marinate had 2 onions, 1 cup red wine vinegar,/2 olive oil, 1/3 cup brown sugar,1Tbsp oregano and rosemary, 1/2 tsp. hot sauce and 1/2 tsp. salt and 2 tbls pepper

I should tell you that flat iron steak is a center cut of a top blade roast.

It was very good we cooked it on the grill for 16 mins for med. steak. If you want to try something new give this a try. It was a hit. Just wish I knew how many calories was 4oz of this steak.

If anyone can help me I would sure appreciate it.
