| one way to make oatmeal taste better is to add thinly sliced apples cooked or not. My friend eats them this way but adds walnuts for more protein. I tried it but with "cinnamon weight control" instant oatmeal. It is a little sweeter than the regular. I have a hard time with the regular oats. I like mine sweet too. It is an o.k. happy medium and I am losing weight on this.

Thank y ou for your reply to my query appertaining to Porridge. Sorry I have been unable to reply before.
Regarding you query. Porridge is basically Oats. I use Quaker Oats as I find them the best.
I use one tablespoon of oats to approx. half a pint of fully skimmed milk. Place in a microwwaveable bowl and stir well. Add a good pinch of salt(low sodium) and a knob of low fat spread. Place in m icrowave and cook on full power until it comes to the boil.
stir well and add a little more milk if it has thickened. then turn down the power level to "simmer" and continue to cook for about 10 minutes. Stir again and add more milk if it is getting too think. Do this a few times until the mixture is really well cooked and creamy. I like my porridge well cook, but I doubt if a Scot is reading this he (or she) will agree as this is not the way they cook it traditionally and it is a Scottish dish after all!!I believe they bring the water to the boil and add the oats at once and stir well and serve with salt. I like a sprinkle of low sugar sweetener on mine. Hope this answers your question. Regards.

| I didn't know exactly what porridge was either, so I looked it up. Porridge is a simple dish made by boiling oats (normally crushed oats, occasionally oatmeal) or another cereal in water, milk or both. Oat and semolina porridge are the most popular varieties in many countries. Some other cereals used for porridge include rice, wheat, barley, and cornmeal. Legumes such as peasemeal can also be used to make porridge.

I have found that I have had to enter the calories, carbs, fats and protien off the packaging and entered it by clicking on the area,Add foods not listed. It's on the top, right part of the page after you click on the add on foods button after the nutrition page comes into view...Whew! Then you click the favorits button and pick the items you are going to eat or items being used in a recipe. Now, to answer your question.I noticed that you need to type in a brand name on some items such as Kraft cheese or Post cereal.Once you get into the cereal you should find the oatmeal. If not type in Quaker oatmeal. You got to play with it a bit. You'll get the hang of it in no time. I enter a lot of my own items because many items are different calories or fat or something.Since I buy certain products consistantly I want a proper breakdown for my spark diet guidlines. Enjoy the journey and good cookin...Chef Jim
