I measure everything for me. I eyeball what I put on the kids plates.

If you serve up plates next to the stove, and hand each person their plate, and don't put the serving dishes on the table. That way no one picks out of the dish or takes too much.

when I first started this expedition... I never really ate any 'bad' foods - I always ate healthily, but too much of good stuff... so Portion control was a big problem for me.

I measured everything and used a digital food scale for stuff that I could't properly measure (like melon or some vegetables) I am not as precise as I used to be -one year later, but I still do measure occassionally just to keep m yself honest.

I enter into spark exactly what I ate - for all bran cereal - the 1/2 cup portion is just too small for me - so I will measure out 1 cup.

Cereal and cheese are my exceptions... cheese because I love itit so much that I can't trust myself wiht portions - that I have to be really honest with myself - and cereal becuase m ost bowls are just really big it's hard to eyeball it.

For kids, I'm not sure i'd be really obsessive about measuring - but maybe make sure a portion of the plate is vegetables, and the rest of the plate is protein/carbs - and usesmaller plates

Do you all just "eat" or do you measure everything out? If you measure, does the box usually have the correct measurement to eat on it? For instance Raisin Bran might say 3/4 of a cup with 1/2 cup milk..is that what you go by or not? I have read all the eyeballing techniques but just can't seem to get my appetite under control to eat just a little..I always end up going out and buying cookies and eating 6-8 of them a few times a day.

I am having an issue of knowing how much to give my kids on their plate as well. Their Dr has said to feed them 1400 calories a day but I'm not sure if I literally have to measure everything out for them and keep track of their food plus my food or how to do it. I need some serious help in the portion control area.

Thanks for any help you can give me..
