any suggestions on how to get my husband to eat tofu? i have had it several times, but he seems to have a deep hatred of all things tofu. i have tried to sneak it into our house, but he finds it like a bloodhound. any other people with significant others that use to HATE it and now at least tolerate it?

i would love to add it to the staples of our diet!

Yum, that sounds good. I like the addition of the veggies.

That sounds pretty good.

I love how filling tofu is. I cubed & marinated a serving for dinner tonight (a ginger/lime marinade - I can't remember the brand). I cooked up some brown rice and sauteed the tofu with mushrooms, red peppers and zucchini. Added the tofu near the end, it was so good and very filling!

Okay, so here's what I did. I pressed the water out of it for about 15 minutes, cut it into cubes, then marinated it for about 30 minutes in Lawry's mesquite marinade (I already had it on hand). Then I drained off the marinade and dusted it very lightly with flour (used about 1 tablespoon for the whole block), then pan fried in 1 tablespoon of oil until it got crispy on the outside. To complete my meal I made a huge salad of lettuce, spinach, snow peas and carrots lightly dressed with a vinegrette.

It wasn't bad. I think next time I ould marinate it longer, at least a few hours, so that the flavor penetrates the tofu more. I liked the texture contrast, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. I was also suprised at how filling it was. I couldn't eat the full serving, even though I was really hungry when I sat down to eat.

I often eat tofu plain with soy sauce (although not a good idea if you're on a restricted sodium diet). Another option is to brown it in a skillet with some non-stick cooking spray and then do a stirfry as already suggested.

You could also marinate and skewer it with fruit & vegetables and make grilled kababs with it -- it's a very flexible food since it doesn't have a whole lot of flavor to it. You just have to add your own favorite flavors.

If you mash up the extra firm tofu, it makes a nice racotta substitute.
I use half tofu and half low-fat cottage cheese in lasagna (you just need to season it up with your favorite spices).
You could use it in stuffed shells as well.

Thanks for the link! I'll post tomorrow what I end up doing with it, and how it turned out.

I honestly haven't every cooked with it, so only take my advice if you don't get any other! My BF is Asian and he cooks it. He cuts it up and uses it like meat in a stir fry. I also had another friend who used to cook with it, she learned how from OA friends. She would soak it in a broth and cook. I found some recipes at this site for you: http://www.fatfree.com/recipes/tofu/
This is something I want to try also, so please post what you did and how it turned out.

I've got a block of tofu in the fridge, and I've never cooked with it before. I think it's the firm kind. Any recipe suggestions for dinner tonight to help me learn to cook with it? I'm not vegetarian, so just about any ingredient is fine. BTW- this is just for myself, so one or two servings would be great.
