Yep-I just use a normal, run of the mill pepper grinder that I paid 2 bucks for. Make sure you get a new one! Otherwise everything will taste like pepper. I don't know about a mortar and pestle; I don't see why it wouldn't though.
I put it in everything-from veggies and eggs to oatmeal and yogurt.

So a normal pepper grinder works?!?! I so need this stuff but I dont have a coffee grinder or a blender that will work with it.
What about mortor and pestle?

I buy the preground, but in a colored bag (rather than clear plastic) and keep it in my refrigerator. I've been using the preground and it has helped my cholesterol a lot. I put it in yogurt and oatmeal. It is also a great substitute for fats in bread recipes.

I use a pepper mill. It's rather labor-intensive; it really takes a workout to get even 1/2 tbsp ground!

Sort of a whole "kill two birds with one stone" thing, huh?

Yes, pepper grinders are a good alternative to buying a coffee grinder.

Obviously ground is the way to go - fresh ground too (not the pre-ground)
Does anyone know if a mortor and pestle is good enough to grind these seeds? I dont have a coffee or seed grinder. What about a pepper grinder? Sounds crazy but I'm a cheapo uni student :D

Hi, I use to love to add the ground flaxseed in my yogurts...like granola almost...recently I found I have a condition where I can't eat seeds and other nuts etc...so I switched to the flaxseed oil...its great too! I use it on salads w/ vinegar usually apple cider but you could use whatever you like...
good luck w/ it!
hugs,
Ali

Hi Angie, and welcome! Flax seed meal has a lot of benefits - it's high in omega 3's, has a good bit of fiber, and contains several antioxidants. I sprinkle it in my yogurt, on salads, casseroles, etc. It has a kind of mild nutty flavor. You do have to make sure it's ground, tho... the seeds are impossible to digest in their whole form.

If you want more info, just enter "flax seeds" in the message boards search field and you'll get a list of thread with lots of information and recipes using flax.

Enjoy!!
