| as far as soy sauce recommendations - bragg's liquid aminos is good stuff. i put some in the water before i start cooking the rice, and then when it's done i don't need to add salt the the rice.

I have a rice cooker.
This thing steams the rice and does most of the work. I just toss in the rice and water and let it do it's thing. When I want stickier rice I add more water.
I have used it for white rice, brown rice, and black rice.
If you want to add spices or dry onions, toss them in and they get cooked too.
I use the cooker about once a week.
One thing I do is I go out and buy "rice seasoning" in an asian grocery store and sprinkle it on balls of rice (form sticky rice into shapes or balls).
There is low sodium soy sauce, it tastes awful. I tried the kikomen brand of low sodium, it was soooo bad.
hope this helps.

| I love fried rice too Kathmart! The only problem is the high sodium level in the soy sauce. I think there is a lower salt version but I do wonder about the taste. I could eat fried rice every day! Whenever I eat alot of salty foods I retain water and go up in weight the very next day. =( I also love Korean sauces such as gochujang and denjang but have to stay away from those too. They are so delicious!

| I cook mine in the microwave- a suggestion from a fellow spark member- and it turns out wonderfully! I spray the glass bowl with non stick spray, add water and rice and seasoning, and cover with saran wrap. Never a boil over and it works so well!

My best friend gave me this recipe for sticky rice. It comes out perfectly every time!!
1C water 1/2 C rice 1 Tbs olive oil salt to taste
Bring water & salt to a boil, add rice & olive oil, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
Don't lift the cover until the 20 minutes are over! If you want to make more just use 1/2 c more water than however much rice your using.

| I read somewhere recently that if you double the amount of water you'd normally use, and cook until it's all absorbed, brown rice turns out sticker than it normally would. i haven't tried it yet, though...

| I simply use the boil-in-bag Success instant brown rice - in fact, cooked with it tonight. We enjoy it.

| I'm looking for suggestions on short grain brown rice. I love the kind the restaurants use that turns out sticky. The last kind I bought was long grain jasmine brown rice from Trader Joe's and I didn't like it at all. Anyone had any luck? Greatly appreciated!
