Hello everyone, I hope I'm not giving info that you already have but I have a little book of calorie counts and I looked up fiddlehead info for you. 4 oz. fresh has 39 calories. I don't know if you want the other info-let me know. Hope this helps. Julie

thank you for the information on them! I will not be trying them, as I dislike asparagus immensely. But, now I know what they are!
Thanks again!

Fiddleheads are young fern leaves who have just come up from the earth and are still curled into a small spiral, resembling the top of a fiddle. They're full of vitamins, including 74% RDA vitamin A. The taste is similar to asparagus, but a bit stronger.
I found a bunch of recipes for them: http://www.new-brunswick.net/new-brunswick/recipes.html

Enjoy!! :)

I just picked up some fiddleheads myself at the almost-local organic food store. Have only just steamed/boiled them in the past and served w/butter, salt, pepper. Looking for some alternative ways to prepare....what do you have for recipes? Will have to check out the calorie count on the link shared. Thanks. ~Tika

Hi, Rabbit!
Check out this Asian Calorie Counter. You have to scroll down the list to find fiddlehead (it's not in alphabetical order); they are at the very bottom. If you click the "More" button the nutritional info is much easier to read. http://calorielab.com/foods/asian/139

It's fiddlehead season again, and I picked up a fresh batch from the farmer's market. I have a few recipes I'd like to calculate, but fiddleheads are not in the SparkPeople list of foods. Fine, says I, I'll go look 'em up and add them. BUT, I can't find nutritional info for them anywhere. Lots of places say they're very high in vitamins A and C, but nothing more specific than that.
Where can I find a database that will show what fiddleheads have, in the way of nutrition? Or could some kind admin kindly add them to the list? I promise to put up my best recipes if you do! ;)
