I am not sure why you asked the question so the answers given may be exactly what you're looking for. But I think that it is worth remembering that when we are measuring food we are measuring it's weight, not its volume. Although a cup of water and a cup of sand is the same volume, their weight is very different.

To further confuse things, UK cups are different volumes from US cups. So if you are following a recipe from a fantastic website or book that is British, you will get the measurements wrong if you use American cups.

The best way to make sure that you are using the right amounts for any recipe is to convert them into grams. Grams are based on the count of 10, so they are easier to figure out than ounces.

The best site I have found for making the conversions is Gourmet Sleuth as already suggested.

Hope that helps.

Also, 2/3 is .66 and 1/3 is .33

To figure it out on your own, get a calculator and press (top number) / (bottom number), and you'll get the correct decimal every time.

(You don't have to read this part if you're easily confused, but what the heck -- technically 2/3 is .666666666666...where the 6s go on forever. It can be rounded to .66, .67, .667 and so on and so on. (And 1/3, similarly, is .3333333333...) For the purpose of measuring for your recipes, .66 or .33 are fine.

3/4 is the same as 0.75
1/2 is 0.5
1/4 is 0.25
1/8 is 0.125

Hope this helps!
