Dear Anne, Thank you for answering my question about catsup.In the U.K it is simply called fish sauce.We also call ketchup sauce.Wealso have bottle`s of brown sauce which to me is not as sweet as the red sauce more savoury. thank you once again. Anne Robertson

Catsup is Ketchup... a great american interprtation of the Indian or Malaysian Kitjup Manis which means: fish sauce.
Tomato ketchup was introduced in the US as early as 1820 or so. It was first made popular by Jonas Yerks to utilize leftover tomatoes. F and J Heinz popularized this condiment in 1876.
My sources assure me that you can get tomato ketchup in the UK.

Can anyone tell me what is catsup? I have often looked through the recipe`s, and saw it mentioned a few times. The only thing I think it could be is ketchup. I live in England and I have never of it. Thank you
