WOW, thanks for your tips! I will let you know how they turn out! Everyone will be very happy when I start making soups again.

I found a NO sodium chicken boullion at the store today, so I'll give that a shot.

Thanks again!

You could also try using Bragg's Liquid Aminos. I LOVE this stuff and it has a lot less sodium than most soy sauces.

For cream soups: use silk (soy milk), mashed cauliflower, or rice flour to thicken.

the asians use soy sauce...use a sweet or lite (Chinese style soy) do NOT use kikkoman...kikkoman is japanes and contains to much sodium..it was formulated to accompany sushi.

the thais follow a philosophy of YUM...thats the actual word, it means harmony...they use sweet/salt/ acid/ bitter in perfect harmony so they use a sweet soy sauce.

when I personally season soups, i grab a little franks red hot sauce, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar...salt is one of the last things I add.

hope this helps.

If you like cream soups you can still do it and stay on program.
I love to cook..some useful ideas
1. I always start with pam and brown onion and garlic
2. use fat free/ low soduim broth from the store
3. use cauliflower, asparagas, beans or what ever you like. Cook it in the liquid.
4. Use either an imersion blender or take 1/2 the soup out and put it in a blender.
5. If you want it thicker you can add 1/2 potatoe mashed or 1/2 cup of ff 1/2/ and 1/2

There is a website. http://www.healthdiscovery.net/forums/
if you go to the bottom of the page there are recipies. Try a few...good luck

We do like creamed soups, but I don't make them anymore. When I did make them, I used healthy choice low sodium cream of chicken/celery soup. We love to have soups and salads and if I had more soup recipes, I would have a very happy family! They are so hard to please. 3 kids and a picky hubby...UGH! Cooking isn't fun for me. Especially when I'm trying new things. I made a navy bean chili one day, just made it up and my husband was thrilled. BUT after I checked the sodium, I can't make it anymore. One bowl is half of our sodium intake for the day.
Maybe the CHEF man can help us.
I saw him another thread somewhere, but can't find him again since I didn't reply. I just read....

What kind of soups do you like? If they are creamed soups you can add a little tomatoe paste. If you like regular soup try adding different spices with just a bit of salt.
I think exchanging soup recipies may be a good idea..

My whole family loves soup, but my husband and I are trying to avoid all the salt. Is it possible to have a soup taste good without all the salt????
