| Some of my "creative" moments don't turn out so well, but usually they're still edible (by me at least :) if a little bland or ugly looking or something. I don't remember ever having to throw out a whole batch of something!

| We had Jello cake tonight for my boyfriends birithday...it's not using any recipe, but it still tastes great!! Oh as for my disaster...lol, where to start. My most recent one, I tried to make Chapatis..which ar elike a tortilla/flat bread combo...needless to say, mine came out like very thick pie crust. YUCK! :( Usually I just tend to burn things in the oven. If I am baking more than one round, the first items come out great and then I start scorching the rest for some reason...(too busy eating what I am baking perhaps???)

My mother used to make the Jello cake! She is deceased, but I have never master the technique either! Glad to hear I'm not the only one!

The first year DH and I were married,we spent Christmas with his famiy. My job was dessert. I decided to make a Jello poke cake. You know, you bake a white cake, poke holes in each layer and pour red jello in one layer and green jello in the other layer so when you slice the cake , you have Christmas colors ! Well, I did'nt read the recipe all the way thru, it asked for 1 cup of jello for each layer but I used ALL the jello for each layer. I made the cake, frosted it , brought it to my inlaws beaming with pride because I thought it was going to be a hit ! Well too much jello is NOT a good thing and while the cake sat on the dessert table, the top layer slid off and onto the floor where the dog lapped it up !!
Everyone roared with laughter and videotaped it !
To this day ( almost 17 years later ) they still remind me of the Christmas the dog ate my cake !

i once made a stew... and added too much chilli unfortunately it didnt seem too hot while it was cooking, but when i served it no one could eat it and we had to order out!

Once I baked brownies and then set them on the stove top "to cool" with a burner on. I didn't realize it for 30 minutes, by which time they were literally smoking.
I'm lucky I didn't burn the house down!

I love all these! It makes me feel like I'm not alone. Though I have mastered many skills now, my younger years were a disaster. My mother was a gourmet cook and though I watched a lot, it didn't set in till my 30's when I finally learned I can do it...but still have disasters to this day!
One of my worst was when I made a recipe that my mother had made and it was my favorite dish (deep fried sole or red snapper and a "Hawaiian sauce" over rice). She always made it for my birthday. The one part that I really messed up was the sauce...it was pineapple with the juice and green peppers with sugar and thickened with cornstarch and water mixture. I added the cornstarch to the hot liquid and believe me, it was so lumpy and inedible...no one told me to add the water to the cornstarch first and mix! Who knew?! LOl

| Trying to cook pinto beans. By the time the are supposed to be tender, I have lost the desire for them. I must be doing something wrong because I can never get them tender and creamy as other dry beans.

| Whenever we get a microwave I have trouble cooking pasta (stove broken) in it. My very picky hubby won't even try it anymore until I say, I think I have it!

| 8 years ago, right after getting married, I decided to cook dinner and surprise my husband with my cooking skills. I used a recipe from a recipe book I had gotten as a shower gift. It was a casserole and called for a certain kind of noodle- that I didn't yet have in my pantry. I thought another noodle could substitute. Boy was I wrong! I substituted egg noodles and pasta- thought they were interchangeable, Needless to say, they were not- it didn't stand up to being cooked and then added to a the dish to cook some more. It was pasty and the whole batch got dumped- only after I tried adding salt and garlic powder and a myriad of other spices- thinking it was just under seasoned. To this day, whenever I look at a bag of egg noodles, I am sorely reminded of my kitchen disaster.

| My biggest cooking disaster mercifully happened about 30 years ago. I saw a recipe for a meatball casserole in the newspaper, followed the recipe to a "t". The dish looked so pretty when I took it out of the oven, I was beaming with pride. I saw my son take one bite and his face almost went into contortions. I thought he was acting until I took a little bite. Tasted like a big raw onion ball. I sat it back on the stove to cool down, and we all went to KFC for dinner. To this day, I don't know what I did wrong, and I've never cared enough to find the recipe to try it again. Makes me gag just thinking about it. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. lol

I don't tend to have disasters with FOOD, although the biggest one that comes to mind is when I let the rice be inthe slow cooker too long, and it turned to mush.
I DID burn my hand when I turned on the wrong burner, then quick went to move the handle of the pot that had the handle over the burner, not thinking that "Oh, it might be HOT"... nice blisters.

I have two and both involved my dad after my mom passed away. I never cooked before but I watched her; I was too messy to be in the way.
I was trying to make oatmeal cookies and he was bugging me so much I forgot to put the oatmeal in. I couldn't figure out what was wrong until I gave up and made them into bars. I went to throw away the box and there was the oatmeal; I had measured it first to see if I had enough. My niece and I ate them; they were a little greasy.
I was making stew and I didn't know if I should drain the canned peas (dad wouldn't answer me as I told him to get out of the kitchen) so I didn't and we ate green stew. Of course he had to tell a lady at church so it got around.

| I suck at cookies. I can bake bread, scones, cupcakes, fudge you name it. Give me the simplest cookie recipe and I will mess it up every single time.

I can bake bread from scratch and it is great but I cant for the life of me keep from burning a brown and serve roll. Go figure.
There was the half raw turkey for thanksgiving one year, it was not thawed all the way through and I thought it was. What a mess LOL

| XAN...I believe you are right! I also think I tend to crowd too much chicken in the oil. It looks nice and crispy, but once I put it in the oven to keep it warm, it loses it's crispiness...darnums!

| To get crispy fried chicken: dip pieces in egg, the seasoned flour, the back in the egg and back in the flour. Be sure to have plenty of oil in the skillet and get the oil hot. I would suggest that your main problem is that your oil is not hot enough.

| I feel your pain! LOL...I cannot, for some reason, fry chicken! I have tried so many times, but for whatever reason it never turns out crispy...more like soggy! I can cook the most difficult recipes, but for crying out loud why can't I fry a simple bird?! LOL

I took three years of home ec, in Jr High, High School, and College. In one of the classes we were required to subscribe to a teen cooking magazine. Every single recipe that I fixed out of that magazine was a flop. I don't know why??
Years later when I was at home with my first child, I wanted to make homemade baked macaroni & cheese (not the kind in a box like Kraft). It was not edible.
Now days, I can look at a recipe and know if it has the right stuff.
