I had some for dinner tonight --- roasted with regular potatoes & carrots
so yummy!!!!

Technically they are not the same.
But in many recipes people will innerchange them.
A sweet potato is more like a regular potato in texture. They are yellow on the inside. Gold really.
Now what we call yams are orange and a much moister and sweeter flesh. I personally love yams and hate sweet potatoes. So for me there is a big difference.
I would think though that they would cook up similar for fries.
Also some day you may want to try butternut squash. I really like it cut like shoestring potatoes and roasted at 425 degrees with just a bit of salt and pepper. Maybe cinnamon if you like. I always roast my veggies on a piece of parchement paper lined baking sheet sprayed with pam. They aren't crunchy but softer yet really sweet and just good and much lower in calories than a potato.

Are yams the same as sweet potatoes? After reading a thread on here about sweet potato fries, I went to the grocery store to find some sweet potatoes, but all they had were yams. I didn't buy any, wanting to as you knowledgable people if they were basically the same thing?
