I have a microwave rice cooker and I never cook rice any other way as it is so quick and easy.
I put in one cup of rice and one cup of water, cook on full power for 6 minutes, leave to stand for 10 minutes, add more water and cook for 4 minutes, then leave to rest for 1 minute.
The rice cooks perfectly every time and I get on with preparing the rest of the meal while it is cooking.

| My first messgage board posting!! I have a Pampered Chef rice cooker it is a favorite in the kitchen. You can even make cakes in them in the microwave!! I have to change up the recipes because calorie counting or just make it for one of my friend's parties. But highly recommend!!

I bought a heat diffuser from Amazon for something like $3, and then make my rice in a regular saucepan. I have a gas stove and I could never get the flame adjusted low enough (without it going out completely) to keep the lid from boiling over. The heat diffuser solves that problem nicely.
Since then, I've found a lot of other things that cook better with the diffuser. Things like soups, stews, chili, etc., simmer better with it. No more scorched places on the bottom of the pan either!

I have one and LOVE it!! I love brown rice and it makes it perfectly. I also love to steam shrimp in the basket. It makes for quick peel and eat shrimp, which is very low in calories.
It is the Aroma brand. The best deal I have found is at Costco for 32.00. It has a timer that you can delay cooking and a white and brown rice feature.

As a vegetarian and college student, a rice cooker is an essential tool. I'd go as far to say that I'd give up my microwave for it. I'm starting to experiment with grains and porridges as well.

| Its great if you have a vacuum sealer because you can put a portion size in the bag with some leftover veggies and some left over chicken, seal it up, and throw it in the freezer. When you are ready for a quick meal just put a pot of water on to boil and throw the bag in, give it a few minutes of boiling and then cut it open and dump on a plate or bowl and voila dinner is served!

I have an inexpensive rice cooker that always seems to end up with a bunch of rice stuck to the bottom of it no matter what I do to it. One thing I do a lot is use low sodium chicken broth instead of or in addition to water when I make the rice. It gives it a great flavor. Of course, there is is always garlic, cumin, chili powder, ginger, or curry powder to spice it up while it cooks so it will go with whatever you are cooking!

I've only used mine once. My hubby doesn't each much rice, but I love it.
Can you freeze leftover rice and reheat later?
I have one of those vacuum sealers. But wasn't sure if the rice would come out ok, reheated.

Mine is so old, I have not idea what it is, just that it makes great rice. PC running fine now, it was just for my log in points.
I'm gonna try with the veggies in the rice cooker. I also have been using those zip and steam bags for my veggies. They're great. And no clean up - even better.....lol

| I have a steamer that not only cooks rice but also does veggies too. I mostly use it for the rice because I usually buy frozen veggies. It's a Black and Decker

I love our rice cooker as well. I generally use jasmine or long grain white rice--extra good to pour in about a tablespoon of rice wine vinegar with the water-adds that little something extra.
Also, I have pretty good luck cooking rice on the stovetop--pour two parts water, one part rice into pot, bring to boil, cover and turn off heat-leave for about 20 minutes==won't burn because there's no heat under the pan. Just fluff the rice up with a fork afterward.

I use mine 4 veggies too. or a rice veggie medley. If I am making rice and I have cold chicken, I put the chicken on top of the rice when it has about 5 mins left, keeps the meat moist and warms it up. U can also warm up tortillas if you are making wraps

| I LOVE my rice cooker! It's so easy to just throw the rice in and walk away. Some of the newer models have steamer baskets that you can put inside (for one-pot meals), but mine is just your basic Black&Decker for $20 from Target.

| I have one, too, but I have to admit that I haven't used it since I got it last September for my wedding. I think it would help if I bought rice for it. I can't boil rice...it turns into a pan shaped clump, a good weapon, but not good food. Was actually thinking about using it this coming long weekend.

| I have one, and use it to cook all kinds of rice (white long grain, jasmine, japanese, brown, etc). Have only cooked it over stove-top once or twice, so don't know much about that. The best rice cookers are those that keep the rice warm- can't beat them!

Hello;
I am new here. I don;t have a rice cooker, so could someone tell me how to exactly cook brown long grain ricem (the one i use often)?
I somtimes fry the onion , then add the rice, with some salt and pepper or seasoning and pu tit in teh oven, I am often wondering is this a healthy method of cooking rice, as i found i can't make the boiled rice right.

That's one of the most handy kitchen appliances I have. You don't have to worry about burning the rice. I cook all kinds of rice recipe in my rice cooker and they come out great.

I've had one for a few years and I love it! I was always burning my rice on the stove.
When I had chemo 5 years ago, there were times I couldn't keep much down, but I could handle rice. On the day before I had chemo, I would cook a big pot of rice in my rice cooker and then keep it in the fridge. I would eat it plain, reheated in the microwave with a little spray butter and some salt and pepper. When my stomach could handle a little more, I would spray a pan with cooking spray and mix some rice with an egg and cook it.

I love mine. Its pretty old, it was my parents and they gave it to me when they bought a new one. I use it several times a week and would be lost w/o it. Its not that rice is hard to cook, but with a cooker, I can just throw rice and water and turn it on and not have to mess with it anymore. :)

| I just got one as a present from my brother & his wife. It's by Wolfgang Puck & they purchased it from hsn.com for under $30. I plan on trying it out this week - it comes with this mini cookbook with alot of great recipes for things other than rice. You can even steam veggies in it since it comes with a steamer insert or you can use it just like a Crockpot to make slow-cooked meats, stews, even desserts. There's even recipes to make breads and cakes in it.

Rice cooker is one of those things on my counter. We eat alot of rice over here and it is off only when we are cleaning it or sleeping.
The keep warm feature is a must and most come with an insert for steaming anything from brocc, caulif, carrots, corn on the cob to tamales. Set it and forget it is the truth....I've cooked brown, jasmine, basmati, wild and every other kind of rice and it has never taken more than 20-30 minutes. Plenty of time to slice, dice and chop everything for dinner.

| I have one I got at costco for like 32.00--the brown rice always cooks up BEAUTIFULLY (similar to what you get when you cook it in the oven). The only downside is that it takes about 2 hours to cook the brown rice. I usually make extra (it has a huge capacity) and freeze it for super-convenient use.

| I told my bf last week that I was going to buy a rice cooker. She told me to wait, she had one in her cabinet that she had never used. Ex-sister-in-law gave it to her one Christmas. When she gave it to me I discovered it is really a steamer with a bowl in it to cook rice and has a timer. Shuts off when the timer goes off but does not have a warmer like a real rice cooker. Hey, works anyway! First thing I cooked was Quinoa. Perfect! Trying wild rice tonight.

| I currently have a Zojirushi fuzzy logic rice cooker. I use it to make all of our rice and I love it. Not because I cannot cook it on the stove but because I set it and forget while I prepare the remainder of the meal. I have a family of 4 and a large rice cooker. I started with a much smaller less expensive model. It was okay but because rice is so versatile I usually prepare more than one meals worth at a time.

| I bought mine at Target for about $20.00 so if you look hard enough, you should be able to find one for pretty cheap. Just make sure that it isn't one of the cheap, crock pot looking ones. If you find a good one, you will be able to make really good, really quick, and really simple meals that are inexpensive and good for any diet.

| I don't have one, no room on the counter. I make both white and brown rice in a small saucepan with a tight fitting lid. After a billion failed attempts, I learned how to make it so it always comes out fine.

I have one, and we love it. It's so handy . . . we love brown rice, and the cooker makes it perfect every time! And it's really nice b/c you can start it whenever and it keeps it warm until my main dish is ready!
We have the Black and Decker Rice Cooker Plus . . . not sure where we got it or how much . . . be sure to read the book that comes with it!! :)

I have a Zojirushi "fuzzy logic" automatic rice cooker and I love it. It's the smaller one (there's just 2 of us and we live in an RV) and I've cooked both white and brown rice in it. The rice is always perfect. This cooker is brilliant!
