| i agree that any oil will do, veg, olive...really it all just depends on taste. i personally use canola or olive in my dressings simply b/c they are healthier.

| Ok, I believe ya! lol... it just sounds weird to me, cuz i've only used vegetable oil to bake or in a pan or whatever...i never thought it could be a base for something...and yea, if it has a lighter taste, then i think i would use that instead of the olive, because this salad i had a party before and i LOVED it! So i want to try to make it. And yea, i just remember the dressing having this light, sweet taste i couldnt' put my finger on.....but anyways....thanks, oh, and one more thing, if you're still here...do you think brand would matter?? Or just any vegetable oil i have??? (still cant grasp the concept of this..lol)

You could use olive oil in it if you want to, I would. olive oil is better for you but really I would not lie to you, salad oil is your everyday generic vegetable oil LOL My mother STILL calls it that. Maybe its a regional thing? Vegetable oil is lighter in flavor then olive oil, maybe that's why the recipe calls for it instead.

| Salad oil is an older term for vegetable oil.

Hi everyone...if a recipe calls for salad oil can someone tell me what exactly that is??? It just does not occur to me that I will go to the grocery store and find a bottle labeled "Salad Oil" on it. My friend said it might be extra virgin olive oil, but if that were the case, wouldn't the recipe say that???? Please someone clear this up for me thanks
