I don't know if this would work if you wanted to eat them plain once they have been thawed. I use the thawed bananas for baking or frozen in smoothies. I cut up and freeze most fruit that is overripe in ready to use chunks. I've had success with: bananas, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, peaches, nectarines, and kiwi.

That sounds great! I love bananas and couldn't figure out how to take them to work for lunch because they always got squished. Do you know if this works for peaches, too?

Frozen bananas are great for baking and for smoothies. Any bananas that are reaching the too ripe to eat stage are peeled and cut into quarters before I freeze them. They are stored in a container in the freezer. It's so easy to grab exactly how much you want for a recipe.

I actually made a beef stew today, 6portions, and some fried rice, I placed them in individual portions and marked the containers with masking tape with the date and the contents. Lets see what happens.

HI Karlee2255,

I used to have the same problem with the fresh veggies and fruit, but I found out that if I wash and desinfect them the day I bring them home from the grocery store, they last a good 2 weeks or more in the fridge, also if you put a layer of paper towles to absobe the humidity they last longer, the only thing that I leve in it's plastic sack is lettuce everything else gets to be free, so to speak, LOL.

You can buy vegetable disinfectant at the grocery store, usually in the produce area. If not you can use betadine just a few drops in water. I fill the sink and then ad 4 or 5 drops, the water turns slightly yellow, then I rinse and wash the fruits and veggies and let them soak in the water for about 15 min, then I drain the water, rinse again and let them dry before putting them in the fride.

I hope you try this, for me it has meant a world of saving, I haven't trown out anything since i started doing this, wellexcept bananas but you can't put them in the fridge cause they oxidize.

hugs, Stevie

I agree. I am single and I have a big problem trying to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables if I try to eat them all fresh. If I buy four bananas, some strawberries, and three peaches plus baby carrots, edible snap peas, an onion, some potatoes, etc., I end up throwing some of it away because it has gone bad at the end of a week. However, if I make somethings that I can freeze, I can leave them in the freezer for weeks or even months and I don't have to throw away as much food and if I do a few batches I have several different meal choices in the freezer, waiting for me.

Maybe it'll help you to keep in mind that homemade frozen dinners are a lot different thant store bought ones. The sodium alone will make you cringe. But if you cook and freeze the meals yourself, you don't have that problem because you decide what goes in and what does not.
You don't even have to eat the same meal over and over again. Let's say you make a meal for 4 people but there's only 2 at your house. Eat two servings and freeze the other two for later use. Eat it a few days later or even a week or two later. It doesn't matter.
I hope you'll find a way to make it work for you!

Maybe I shouldtry and get around the "left over" and "frozen dinner" dilema, and give it a chance.

I had the sameproblem with the dentist, she wanted me to try a type of interdentalbrush I had used before and hurt my teethbut now with all the work I have done the brush no longer hurst my gums, maybe it willbe the same with the meals.

I do fine measuring and preparing my meals,it's just I have to get over all this misinformation I have in my head, if my fat is 14 grams,I am fine with that and actually feel proud, except my min. is 38, do you know how hard it is for me to get that high without going for the Bad fat?, I am so thankful that you reminded me that not all fat is bad fat,and i do love nuts and peanuts and stuff like this. Avocados, well, Hell's bells, I have a tree in the back yard!

I was doing very well on Spark when I was cooking, measuring and batch freezing. I do tend to get bored with an item, but when I was batch cooking I had several choices to get me through. I have got to start doing that again. My weightloss is at a stand still and I've added a couple of pounds. I know it's because I have been lax on my measuring, etc. I intend to really get back on track this week. I want to lose at least 5 pounds by Thanksgiving.

Hi everyone,
Yes i was thinking the same thing, but i found out that if you enter the recipe in your cookbook you don't have to add it on to that days mealmenu.

I have also found something strange,If I am working without the meal planner, I have to click it on and the off again in order for my recipe to show on my tracker if I enter it and make it that same day.

I cook for one and maybe 2 people and freezing, well I have aproblem with frozen dinners, I was told for so long to stay away from them that i find it extremly hard to eatlefy overs so i usually ajust recipesto one serving or trow out the rest because i won't eat itlater on.

Does anyone else have this problem and how are you coping with it, sSP wants usto "batch food and freeze it" or make enough foodfor a wholeweek of the same thing, see, I can't eat the same thing over and over. Unless they are my alltime favorites, which are probably banned from here anyhow.

Thanks! I don't understand why you have to add the recipe to myNutrition since I may just be thinking about trying the recipe but I guess I could do that and then delete it if I don't make it that day.

And I finally found the favorites tab also after much searching in the wrong places!

After you have entered your recipe, the whole thing comes up on a screen that allows you to save. To the left side of the screen is a blue link that allows you to add the recipe to your Calorie Tracker for that day or for another day. Once you have done that once, your recipe will be listed on your "favorites" tab when you add a new food item.

How do I get a recipe that I put into the recipe area into my meal? When I am in the food tracker it does not find the recipe. Do I have to enter it twice?

Good point. I think I have done that on most of my submitted recipes. I will go back and check. I also try to list what a serving size is. (one cup usually) I like to freeze my dishes in one serving containers so I can take one out in the mornings and bring them for lunch.

Some of us are cooking for a 1 or 2 person household, or would prefer to make multiples of the recipe and freeze some for later. It would be very helpful to know if a recipe freezes well, when it is submitted. Thanks.

Click on the Healthy Lifestyle button and from the dropdown menu select sparkrecipes.com. When you get them click on recipe calculator. You can enter your recipe there and it will tell you calories, fat, fiber, etc. per however many servings you enter.

Interesting posts.
Today is my 2 week anniv. with SP. I love this site, but am still a little green a things.
I have a great recipe I would love to share, but by the sounds of it, it may take a very long time to hear back. My question to you though is this, where do you click to share your recipe? I've looked all over SparkRecipes and can not figure it out. Please help if you can.
Thanks,
-YoYo

There are a lot of unhealthy recipes. I think the reason is that people are entering things they eat/cook to find out the calorie content, etc. Since the share this recipe button is automatically checked several recipes that aren't meant to be shared get through. You can fix that by going to your recipe box and removing it from shared, but I'm sure a lot of people don't take the time to do that. Maybe if the button wasn't checked as default a lot fewer "accidental" recipes wouldn't get through. I do wish more recipes got reviewed by SP, or that some notification was given if it didn't "make the cut". I have subbmitted several and have heard nothing. I also noticed that the same recipes remain the top 10 popular recipes -- probably because people click them from that link and therefore nothing new is ever added.

I think anyone can submit any recipe you want, whether it is considered to be "healthy" or not. It is up to the user to decide if they want to eat it or not. at least you can get an idea of what the calorie value is, and make the decision to work it into your daily diet plan or not. I wish the submitters would at least run through the recipe they submitt to be sure they have included all the ingredients and all the instructions.

I have found a LOT of unhealthy recipes in Sparksrecipes. I have seen recipes that didnt list ingredients, gave no measurement or amount, and gave no instructions, yet had ratings? I have submitted a number of recipes of foods I have tweaked and perfected, that are not duplicates of someone elses, nor are they copied from magazines or cookbooks, or websites, yet cannot get a rating. Yet I came across a wonderful meatloaf recipe that is exactly duplicate to one kraft has on at kraft.com. I guess sparkpeople is too busy to monitor the thousands of recipes that are submitted, (which is understandable)however submitters are not being exactly up to snuff about where they got their recipes from

I wish people would try some of my submitted recipes. I guess so many people submit that very few ever get rated. I just made a really great dessert that I adapted from a Martha Stewart recipe. If someone wants to try it out, it is called "Roasted Autumn Fruit." It does have a little butter and sugar, but it is still only 146 calories per serving.
If anyone tries making it with Splenda, I would like to know how it comes out.

Hmmm, they must have some health benefit to have made their way on here... but I agree, why not substitute them with even healthier options? Who needs shortening in anything anyway?

Did you see these unhealthy recipes on sparkrecipes? Were they entered by another user? Anyone can enter whatever they want and if they want to share the recipe, they can do so, no matter how healthy or unhealthy they are...

I submitted a couple healthy, simple recipes months ago. I have not heard anything. Does this mean they did not make the cut.

Also, I am seeing some very unhealthy recipes on here too. For instance a lot that use butter and white flour and sugar and even CRISCO!!! How in the world do those make it onto this healthy website?? Maybe those can be deleted to make room for the healthier stuff. I love SP, and this site has helped me immensely, but I just do not understand some of these recipes???
