Thanks for the info! High calorie counts usually daunt me away from eating cereal, but you have a point - the longer it keeps you full, the better! IŽll have to try some when I get back state-side!

Hey great post! I hated Total cereals as a kid, but I think I will buy some and see how it works for me. Thanks for the tip.

I learned something very valuable about the same time as I joined SP. I found a website written by Dr. Mirkin. He and his wife who are both physicians did a study regarding many breakfast cereals. They listed the best cereals for health, ones that have low sugars, good fiber, and good protein. They listed all the cereals that were not recommended due to containing too much sugar or partially hydrogenated oils. The doctors gave thumbs up to most of the General Mills cereals, because the number one ingrediant is whole wheat. I stared to eat General Mills Total right after joining SP which was back on April 25th. I found that after a few days of eating that cereal in the morning, that I was not very hungry at lunch time and even not as hungry at supper either. The nutritional value of Total very very high with regards to most of the vitamins and minerals required on a daily basis. I found that I was under my minimum daily requirements just about every evening. I am supposed to be consuming 1640 calories, 184 carbs, 36 grams of fat, and 4l grams of protein. I was meeting my nutritional minimums on all, but the calories. I still found that I was able to lose weight, and I believe that by eating one or two cereal servings each morning, I was able to get all the nutrition daily that I was supposed to get, and even though my calorie totals were under the minimum, my body was not going into a mode whereas it felt that I was starving thus it would start storing fat and not burn it. The cereal made a big difference. Since joining SP, the food items that I have kept away from are all of the pastas, the french fries, ice cream in the evenings, and mashed potatoes. I have consumed alot of the varieties of campbells soups, and documented daily, the soups nutritional values in order for me to sustain minimums and maximums. I have also enjoy many tuna sandwiches with just a tablespoon of mayo for flavor. Progresso has a few good soups also, and I enjoy Lentil and have two cups which is 280 calories. I figure that if I consume around 500 calories per meal that I will be in good shape. I still come up short in the evenings about 200 to 400 calories. Sometimes, I just don't feel like eating any more at meal times than what I have consumed. I could never do that before. If something good and tasty was on my plate, I would finish it, then look to see if I could obtain another helping if there was some (leftover). This is a very long message, but I hope that many of you read it, and that you start looking at the nutritional values on the side of the General Mills Total and Total Raisin Bran boxes. You will love what you see. Don't forget to enjoy a half cup of one percent whole milk with your Total. Have fun. Alan
