| Hi, sometimes type in the brand name of what you trying to enter. You might be able to find some of the things that way. ie as Gold Medal flour instead of flour. If it gives you ounces just remember 16 ounces are 1 pound. They have a conversion table listed under Nutrition guide it help to convert. I book mark these as I use them quite alot.
| Ok, in terms of ouce of beef, if they specify 1 ounce and you need 8 ounces then just select 8 servings. Flour is in there kind of odd, search on flour then you'll have to sift (no pun intended) through which one is closes to what you want. You have to keep in mind that this is site is used by people from many different countries and we all have a unique way of thinking of ingedients and how to measure them. After you've been around a while, you figure out how to pull out what you use all the time.

| The very first item in my recipe is 1 lb. ground beef. I can find 1 oz. but not 16 ozs. Another item is 2 tablespoons all purpose flour. Can't find all purpose flour at all. I realize that probably each member enters items and I have entered few but I am only about 50% computer literate and I get annoyed with myself and the computer. Thanks for your replys.

| Can you give me a specific example? It might be easier for me to give you a suggestion with a . I have found that some fresh produce is very specific -I can find onions but don't get a hit on onion. So if you can't find a hit on a specific item try the plural form. I have had to get good with my conversions so on items that don't have quanties that are applicable for my recipe. There are some web sites available out there, I just googled on conversion and found one that worked well for me. Example, some items are listed in Tablespoons and I need a quarter cup. Some of the quantities they have available in the tool are odd but I'm sure they make sense in some context.

| Hi, When you are trying to enter the ingredients one at a time are you looking them up or do you need to input the calorie content from the package. I do that alot. I understand being on a limited income. I enter my own food. if it is not listed I take the information from the package. and then list how many servings they say. I am unable to eat certain foods so using their diet is difficult for me. I usually eat what I have and keep track of everything I eat and try and stay in the alotted calories assigned to me. So far I have been doing very well and am learning what and how much I can eat. Don't get discouraged.

| Hi, I went to the sparkrecipes.com and it was the same problem with adding the ingredients. I am having a real problem with the diet because of my fixed income I can't possibly use the recommended diet and am having a real problem with trying to enter the foods I usually eat. I know that I am going to have to make adjustments or I wouldn't need to lose weight. Unfortunately I have to buy the least expensive out there and I live in a really small town and there is not much to choose from, we have one grocery store, and I have learned what I can buy to get by. That is my sad story for today but hey, I really enjoy eating.

| The good news is that after you enter it in the recipe calculator you might rethink the "help yourself until you are ready to stop" philosopy... or if it is a really good for you recipe you can rethink and take more. It is a great tool.
| Thanks for the tip. I have not gone to sparkrecipes.com. I don't know how many this recipe should serve. It is a help yourself and eat until you get ready to stop. I can make a guess about the number it should serve.

| Hi, Have you gone to sparkrecipes.com. on there you would go to recipe calculator. You list the ingredients one at a time. After you finish just put in how many servings it should tell you the calorie count.

Hi, I'm new to this website and I am getting fustrated trying to enter a recipe. It is not a diet recipe and I wanted to try and find out just how bad it is for me. The nutrition site will not let me enter the entire recipe or the portion sizes of the ingredients if the ingredients are even in the list. Anyone have suggestions?

| I use the functionality of sparkrecipes.com as an easier way to add nutrition info to my sparkpeople.com Nutrition Tracker (sure saves a lot of time when I eat the leftovers of a recipe). I don't intend to share any of my recipes so I don't bother adding instructions or retyping out the list of ingredients. It would be handy if there was a way to view all the ingredients of the recipe as entered even if I was too lazy to retype the list into the second box.

| I tried adding a goal box for Blood Sugar AM, and Blood Sugar PM, and it worked, but it seems it only charts for 1 day at a time, as you indicated. I'm needing something that will chart daily, but show you a week's progress at a time. Is there any way to have this option set to show you what your weekly BS range has been? If I'm correct I think blood sugar ranges for most people in the am should be between 80-100, and in the evening not over 140. If a intending sparkpage/tracking page had something like the chart on the bottom of the Nutrition Tracker page, that would be a very nice feature. Maybe there could be an option for diabetic people to add this info to the weekly plan, so that the nondiabetics wouldn't have to bother with or see the info. Maybe this could be created similar to the telling the computer to show you sparkpage meal plans, and have a ghost out option if you didn't care to have this info on your page. Currently, I have to handwrite my blood sugar levels on the daily pages I print which is not too bad to do, but it sure would make life easier to have it print the info on a chart somewhere. I would think dieticians would like to see this information as well as the weekly nutrition and fitness/calorie ranges, too. I'm keeping copies of my daily nutrition and fitness to take to my dietician appointments. We are both very excited about this program. It's been the kick in the seat of the pants I need, and I think being able to visually see what different foods do to you and your goals has really been helpful.

You can go to your Weigh In page and add new measurements to track. However, you can only track each measurement 1 time a day. If you measure your sugar/glucose several times a day you could add multiple measurements, such as "Blood Sugar Morning," "Blood Sugar After Lunch," etc.

Thanks to the computer programmers on sparkpeople.com. You have done a fantastic job, and I love using the tools. This website has helped me significantly.
I have an idea that could be useful for your diabetic users...is there any way to add a page/chart for people, or even several little fill in the box boxes on the daily report to add blood glucose readings for people who need to keep up with this in addition to their exercise/diet?

| Has this already been suggested? A recipe link on the food log? Or a tab for favorite recipes when I do "add food". Or just a recipe tab in "my tools"?

I just made up a little chart in MS-Word... Hopefully it will help those of you going to other sites to calculate your recipes. You can just copy and paste it somewhere on your computer, or copy and print it out and keep it near your computer.
Here it is:
SparkPeople FRACTION / DECIMAL Chart --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---
1 cup = 1 decimal value (SP Tracker) = 16 tablespoons ¾ cup = 0.75 decimal value (SP Tracker) = 12 tablespoons 2/3 cup = 0.666 decimal value (SP Tracker) = 10 ½ tablespoons (+/-) ½ cup = 0.5 decimal value (SP Tracker) = 8 tablespoons 1/3 cup = 0.333 decimal value (SP Tracker) = 5 ½ tablespoons (+/-) ¼ cup = 0.25 decimal value (SP Tracker) = 4 tablespoons 1/8 cup = 0.125 decimal value (SP Tracker) = 2 tablespoons 1/16 cup = 0.0625 decimal value (SP Tracker) = 1 tablespoons

I agree, I've had to resort to other websites to convert tablespoons to cups. Yuck!

I love the recipe calculator, but sometimes wish it had more options for weights and measures. For example, I was tryng to calculate a recipe that called for 1/4 cup of Worcestershire, but cups wasn't an option for measurement under Worcestershire. I've come across this a few times. I also agree with MACDO1 about the can size too.
Otherwise, I love the site! It's a great start!
| Question, Is there a way to put the size of cans in. When adding say black beans. it just has grams and cups. not the can size. such as 14.5 etc. It would be so much easier when trying to make the recipe. Thanks

| I'd like to be able to use multiple selections of the categories that are already there [Occasion, Ethnicity, Dietary Needs and Course]. Much like the CompUSA site allows you drill down and find what you want.

Somewhere in readin' through this thread, I saw an idea for a way the user could sort through the recipes by cal range, e.g., under 300, etc. ... that's a great idea, then those who did not want to see higher cal items would not have to but others would still have that option.
Everyone's ideas on what they are looking for are different, so that would suit everyone.
Wonder how easy it'd be to add other criteria in a sortin' tool like that, e.g., carbs, sugar grams, fiber?

Comment to SkinnySoon. I have noticed that when I have entered an ingredient and have it in my favorites, I need to tell SP to list the foods I have entered manually. I was frustrated until I realized that.
One thing that bugs me right now is the fact that when I go to the recipe calculator, leaving from SP "find a recipe" to SparkRecipes, I keep getting the page telling me about the SparkRecipe site. No matter how many times, I click on the box indicating that I do not want to see the message again, it pops up the very next time. Is that page still necessary? Can you at least make the suppress box work? Many thanks.
On the "sinful" recipes, how about having a "sinful" category with a challenge for people to try to make them healthy. I love it when "Cooking Light" does a recipe makeover. Then the two recipes could be linked.
In any case, the recipe site is great and I use it a lot.

| If you see a rating with profanity or other inappropriate text, just report the recipe and put a note about which comment is inappropriate.
| I've been reading through other threads where people slam others who rate recipes that they never tried. And another poor person who's recipes were slammed by member slams every receipe that contains harmful chemicals, which I assume is slam on the use of artifical sweetners/non-organic products. Perhaps we should have an opportunity to report in appropriate ratings on recipes....
